Solidarity with the Sudanese People, for Peace, Freedom and Democracy

We, the undersigned, participants in the 23rd International Meeting of Communist and Workers’ Parties, held in Izmir - Turkey, call for an immediate end to the ongoing catastrophic war in Sudan, that erupted on 15 April 2023. It has resulted in 9,000 people killed and more than five million people forcibly displaced.

This bloody war is a power struggle among the military rulers and the generals of both the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF). Its aim is to crush the legitimate aspirations of the Sudanese people for freedom and democracy. It is fuelled by imperialist powers and their reactionary allies in the region, attempting to impose political schemes to serve their strategic interests and continue to control and plunder the Sudan’s natural resources and wealth.

We call for:

  • The release of all the detainees held by both warring sides.
  • The abolition of all the draconian laws suppressing freedoms.
  • The creation of safe corridors to deliver urgent humanitarian aid.
  • Bringing to Justice the perpetrators of crimes against humanity, war crimes and genocide against the people in Khartoum, Darfur and Kordofan.
  • Disbanding all the militias, including the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), the withdrawal of the army to its barracks, and building a professional national army.
  • Ending foreign intervention by imperialist powers and reactionary regimes in the region.
  • Respecting Sudan’s national sovereignty and unity.

We reiterate our solidarity with the Sudanese people, their democratic forces and the fraternal Sudanese Communist Party, and firmly support their struggle for freedom, democracy, social justice, and building a democratic civil authority.
