"Current Trends In Capitalism: Economic, Social And
Political Impact. The Communists' Alternative"
Athens, 18-20 November, 2005

Press Release

73 communist and workers' parties from all continents met
in Athens from the 18th to the 20th at the International
Meeting of Communist and Workers' Parties, November, 2005,
with the topic "Current Trends in Capitalism. Economic,
Political and Social Impact. The communists' alternative."

Several parties, who could not attend, sent greetings and
written contributions, which form part of the documents of
the conference. Over the three days of the conference there
was a creative exchange of views concerning the
international situation and experiences on the questions of
work in the mass movements, the struggle of the peoples and
the activities of the communist and workers' parties.
Solidarity statements around a broad scope of international
issues were proposed and adopted by the participants.

The speakers referred to contemporary phenomena and
tendencies in capitalism. It was noted the imperialist
aggressiveness in all spheres and the assault on the social
and labour rights. Experiences were exchanged concerning
the movements and struggles of the peoples in the different
conditions of the various countries and the role of
communists in them. The discussion highlighted the
timeliness of socialism and views were exchanged on the
ways to project and promote this goal in the 21st century.

It was noted that it is necessary to develop active
political solidarity and support among Communist and
Workers' Parties, and more generally among popular
movements and there views were exchanged on possible forms
of joint action.

Participants expressed the need for similar meetings to
continue and multiply at an international and regional
level and emphasized the positive effect the specific
cooperation between Communist and Workers' Parties on the
coordination and united action with wider democratic,
anti-imperialist, anti-monopoly and patriotic forces could
have. The critical importance of the exchange of views and
theoretical discussions on the question of Socialism today
was also noted.

At the meeting a series of initiatives were proposed, which
can be a positive step in the further development of
solidarity and common action between the Communist and
Workers' Parties:

1. Joint campaign for the release of the 5 Cuban patriots,
that may include the organization of a delegation of
parliament deputies, trade unionists and other public
figures to the prisons in the USA.

2. Delegation of international solidarity brigades from
members of our parties to Cuba and Venezuela. Active
support for all the initiatives directed against Free Trade
Agreement of Americas (FTAA / ALCA). Mobilization for the
extradition of Carrilles to Venezuela

3. Joint action against the anti-communist resolution of
the Council of Europe. Issue of joint resolution, signature
campaign and protests in our countries.

4. Campaign on the contemporary relevance of Socialism on
the occasion of the 90th Anniversary of the Great October
Socialist Revolution in 2007.

5. For the May 1st Celebration 2006 a campaign against
poverty, unemployment, firings, liberalization of working
hours, the reform of social security and for labour rights;
against the structural adjustment programs and the policies
of IMF and WB and for the cancellation of the foreign debt
of the so-called third world countries.

6. A meeting of communist educators from countries in
Europe on the impact of capitalist restructuring and of the
Lisbon strategy on education. Joint work on issues related
to the dissemination of the communist ideology and values
amongst young people, and aspects regarding the use of the
internet.

7. A European campaign against the anti-terrorism measures
of the EU. Support for the activities of the CP of Finland
during the EU-Summit.

8. Systematic monitoring of issues that are related to the
persecution of Communist Parties and other anti-imperialist
forces such as the outlawing of the CP by name and where it
is illegal and concerning trials and imprisonments, other
forms of persecutions and surveillance. The creation of a
working group on these questions.

9. Active support for broad participation in the regional
meetings of the Communist Parties such as the meetings in
Latin America and other regional meetings of Communist
Parties.

10. Support for the European initiative of the Portuguese
CP regarding the developments in Europe and the EU in March
2006.

11. Meeting of the Balkan CPs and anti-war movements
directed against the changes in borders, and imperialist
interventions of NATO, the USA and the EU.

12. Campaigns for the retreat of the foreign occupation
forces from Iraq, against NATO and foreign military bases.
Support for the initiative of the CP of Canada in
Vancouver, June 2006 and other relevant initiatives.

13. Solidarity with DPR Korea that faces a US-led blockade
and threats of imperialist aggression as well as with the
people of all countries facing imperialist threats.

14. Action against the "Greater Middle East" plan. Active
solidarity with the Iraqi people, for the end of the
occupation and the restoration of the sovereignty of the
country. Also, we express our solidarity with the peoples
of Lebanon and Syria in their struggle against the
imperialist pressure and the interference in the internal
affairs of their countries. We reject the imperialist
threats against Iran and we express our solidarity with its
people in the struggle for peace, progress, democratic
rights and social justice. To intensify the solidarity
actions with the peace loving forces in Israel.
Establishment of an international day of action against the
Israeli racist wall in Palestine and other actions. Joint
solidarity delegation from representatives of the CPs to
Lebanon, Syria, Palestine and Israel.

15. To multiply the solidarity actions with the peoples of
Africa, against imperialist exploitation, and promote
solidarity cooperation, and joint action with the African
communist and workers' parties

The time, the venue and the topic of the international
meeting of 2006 will be decided at the meeting of the
working group of the communist and workers' parties and a
press release relevant to this will be published in good
time.

COMUNICADO DE PRENSA

73 partidos comunistas y obreros de todos los continentes
participaron en el Encuentro Internacional de Partidos
Comunistas y Obreros que se realiz� en Atenas los d�as 18 a
20 de noviembre de 2005 sobre el tema "Las tendencias
actules del capitalismo y su impacto econ�mico, pol�tico y
social. La alternativa de los comunistas".

Algunos partidos que no pudieron asistir a la reuni�n
enviaron saludos e intervenciones escritas, que forman
parte de los materiales del encuentro. En los tres d�as del
encuentro se realiz� un creativo intercambio de opiniones y
experiencias sobre la situaci�n internacional y temas
relacionados con las acciones en el movimiento de masas, la
lucha de los pueblos y del accionar de los partidos
comunistas y obreros. Los participantes propusieron y
adoptaron una serie de resoluciones de solidaridad sobre un
amplio espectro de temas internacionales.

Los ponentes se refirieron a los fen�menos y las tendencias
actuales del capitalismo. Se subray� la agresividad
imperialista en todas las esferas y el ataque contra los
derechos sociales y laborales. Intercambiaron experiencias
sobre los movimientos y las luchas populares en las
distintas condiciones de cada pa�s y el papel de los
comunistas. Varios oradores se refirieron a la actualidad
del socialismo e intercambiaron opiniones sobre los caminos
para promover ese objetivo en el siglo XXI.

Se subray� la necesidad de desarrollar una activa
solidaridad pol�tica y el apoyo entre los partidos
comunistas y obreros as� como entre los movimientos
populares en general y se propusieron ideas sobre
eventuales formas de acci�n com�n.

Los participantes expresaron la necesidad de continuar y
multiplicar a nivel internacional y regional encuentros
similares de partidos comunistas y obreros y enfatizaron el
efecto positivo de las acciones comunes con fuerzas
democr�ticas, antimperialistas, antimonopolistas y
patri�ticas m�s amplias. Se destac� tambi�n la gran
importancia que tiene hoy en d�a el intercambio de
opiniones y el debate te�rico sobre el tema del socialismo.

Durante el encuentro se propusieron una serie de
iniciativas que pueden ser un paso positivo en el
desarrollo de la solidaridad y las actividades comunes
entre los partidos comunistas y obreros:

Campa�a com�n para la liberaci�n de los 5 patriotas cubanos
encarcelados en Estados Unidos, que puede incluir el env�o
de una delegaci�n de parlamentarios, sindicalistas y otras
personalidades para visitarlos en las c�rceles
estadounidenses.

Env�o de brigadas internacionales de solidaridad compuestas
por militantes de nuestros partidos a Cuba y a Venezuela.
Apoyo activo a todas las iniciativas contra el Acuerdo de
Libre Comercio de las Am�ricas (ALCA). Exigir que se
extradice a Posada Carriles a Venezuela.

Acci�n com�n contra el memorando anticomunista del Consejo
de Europa. Resoluci�n com�n, campa�a de recolecta de firmas
y protestas en nuestros pa�ses.

Campa�a sobre la actualidad del socialismo en ocasi�n del
90 aniversario de la Gan Revoluci�n Socialista de Octubre
en 2007.

Para el 1ro de Mayo de 2006 campa�a por los derechos
laborales, contra la pobreza, el desempleo, los despidos,
la liberalizaci�n del tiempo de trabajo y la reforma de la
seguridad social. Contra los programas de cambios
estructurales y las pol�ticas del Fondo Monetario
Iternacional y del Banco Mundial y por la cancelaci�n de la
deuda externa de los pa�ses del llamado Tercer Mundo.

Encuentro de educadores comunistas de pa�ses europeos sobre
el impacto en la educaci�n de las reestructuraciones
capitalistas y la estrategia de Lisboa. Acciones comunes
sobre temas relacionados con la difusi�n de la ideolog�a y
los valores comunistas entre la juventud. Colaboraci�n en
aspectos que tienen que ver con el uso del Internet.

Campa�a europea contra las medidas antiterroristas de la
UE. Apoyo a las actividades del PC de Finlandia durante la
Cumbre de la UE en el primer semestre de 2006.

Monitoreo sistem�tico de temas relacionados con la
persecuci�n de partidos comunistas y otras fuerzas
antimperialistas, como son la prohibici�n de utilizar el
nombre PC, otros que son ilegales, juicios y
encarcelamientos, y otras formas de persecuci�n. Creaci�n
de un grupo de trabajo sobre ese tema.

Apoyo activo a los encuentros regionales de los PC como son
los encuentros en Am�rica Latina y otros encuentros
regionales de los PC.

Apoyo a la iniciativa europea del PC Portugu�s sobre los
acontecimientos en Europa y en la UE, en marzo de 2006.

Encuentro de PC balc�nicos y de movimientos contra la
guerra dirigido contra los cambios de fronteras y las
intervenciones imperialistas de la OTAN, los Estados Unidos
y la UE.

Campa�as para que se retiren todas las fuerzas de ocupaci�n
de Irak, contra la OTAN y las bases militares extranjeras.
Apoyo a la iniciativa del PC de Canad� en Vanc�ver, en el
mes de junio de 2006 y de otras iniciativas relevantes.

Solidaridad con la Rep�blica Democr�tica Popular de Corea
que enfrenta un bloqueo por parte de los Estados Unidos y
amenazas de agresi�n imperialista, as� como con los pueblos
de todos los pa�ses que enfrenan amenazas imperialistas

Actividades contra el "Plan para el Gran Oriente Medio".
Solidaridad activa con el pueblo de Irak por el cese de la
ocupaci�n y la restaurac�n de la soberan�a del pa�s.
Solidaridad con los pueblos de L�bano y de Siria en su
lucha contra las presiones imperialistas y las
intervenciones en los asuntos internos de sus pa�ses.
Rechazamos las amenazas imperialistas cotra Ir�n y
expresamos nuestra solidaridad con su pueblo en la lucha
por la paz, el progreso, los derechos democr�ticos y la
justicia social. Intensificar a solidaridad con las fuerzas
afavor de la paz en Israel. Declarar un d�a de solidaridad
internacional y otras actividades contra el muro racista
israel� en Palestina. Env�o de una delegaci�n com�n de
solidaridad de representantes de PC a L�bano, Siria,
Palestina e Israel.

Multiplicar las actividades de solidaridad con los pueblos
de Africa contra la explotaci�n imperilista y promover la
solidaridad, cooperaci�n y acci�n com�n con los partidos
comunistas y obreros de Africa.

La fecha, el lugar y el tema del Encuentro Internacional
para el a�o 2006 se van a decidir en la reuni�n del grupo
de trabajo de los partidos comunistas y obreros y se va a
publicar a tiempo un comunicado de prensa.
