Changing of the guard in the Swiss Communist Youth:
comrade Luca FREI steps down as General Secretary

After five years at the head of the Swiss Communist Youth (SCY/GCS), comrade Luca Frei (26 years old) will leave the post of general secretary of the youth wing of the Communist Party (Switzerland) to a new comrade, who will be elected on February 8 in Bellinzona as part of a General Assembly during which international politics, Switzerland's neutrality, and how to counter the growing Atlanticist propaganda in local media and schools, among other issues, will be discussed.

Comrade Luca Frei had taken the reins of the SCY/GCS in 2020 with the goal of consolidating and further increasing the growth of the youth movement. Despite a complex context characterized first by difficulties related to the Coronavirus pandemic and then by increased attacks on Swiss communists following the extension of the conflict in Ukraine, this goal was certainly achieved, with a particular growth of interest in the SCY/GCS among university students and young workers.  

During comrade Luca Frei's leadership, three political campaigns of the Young Communists in particular are worth mentioning: the launch of a petition against youth precariousness, an open letter to demand free public transportation, and, finally, a petition to demand Swiss recognition of the Palestinian State. Three issues that will continue to be important in the Swiss Communist Youth's political battles.

During that period, the international relations of the Swiss young communists were also further consolidated and expanded, particularly with leading youth movements such as the Chinese Communist Youth League and the youth wing of the Communist Party of Vietnam, but also with various European organizations, such as the Young Communists (Giovani Comuniste/i) in Italy.

Comrade Luca Frei will now continue his militancy primarily in the Communist Party (Switzerland), of whose Central Committee he has already been a part for some years. The Swiss Communist Youth, pleased with its recent growth in militants, is now resolved to grow even more.
