No to the war in Ukraine, no to imperialist wars! Fight for peace and our contemporary needs!Let's fight for socialism!

For several weeks we have been subjected to propaganda in the media, pushing for a confrontation with Russia by invoking a possible invasion of Ukraine. This threat serves the interests and plans of the USA, NATO and the European Union to tighten the noosearound the Russian Federation in their inter-imperialist competition, despite the agreements of non-expansion of NATO to the east at the time of the dissolution of the Soviet Union.

This escalation between the US, NATO, the EU and Russia is dangerous for the peoples and the Communist Party of Belgium shares the concern of the workers, who demand that the escalation to war must stop immediately. The threat has led to deliberately confusing reports by RTBF (French speaking public television), notably around the memory of the massacre of 34,000 Jews by the Nazis in 1941 at Babi Yar in Ukraine, while the Ukrainian government includes fascist forces within its ranks.

Furthermore, while social needs are enormous, the threat of warisused to increase the defence budget by 14 billion to meet the required NATO standard of 2% of GDP. Theseadditional 14 billion come from the expansion of the army which is already involved in interventions: in Afghanistan until July 2021, in Syria, in Libya, in Mali and in a lot of countries to defend the imperialist interests of Belgium or the West. These 14 billion are added to the reduction of "employers'" social contributions, which amount to 18 billion this year. Thus, where the necessary financing of health care, education, social housing, is already undermined, a "war budget" isimposed. The objective of the bourgeois government is clear, where since 1980, under the injunctions of the European Union, the provision of social housingis DECREASING, the savings in health care and social security are INCREASING.

The existing imperialist power centres organise competitiveness for their "own" monopolies. In these imperialist centres, the US, the EU and also Russia, the degree of exploitation of their "own" workers is increased. Through the competition of the "Belgian" or European monopolies, the exploitation of "Belgian" workers - but in factthose of the whole EU - is to be increased through governmental policy that transposes the European directives (orders) into "Belgian" governmental policy.

The current escalation around Ukraine is capitalism in its imperialist phase, i.e. dominated by a global struggle for marketshares, raw materials, logistic infrastructures and transport routes. In the case of Ukraine, itis the question of gas supply to Europe thatis at stake. The situation will benefit the entire arms industry and everything associated with it. Profits are pouringin!  The champagne is being poured, before the heads are cut off!

The demonstration on 5 February is a good start to revive the peace movement.

- for the elimination of all NATO military bases and stored nuclear weapons

- Belgium out of NATO, NATO out of Belgium; for the withdraw of Belgium from all imperialist alliances and the European defence project

- against all alliances with other countries for weapons-related research, such as with Israel.

- to stop participating in ALL imperialist interventions, missions and actions

- for an alliance of the struggles of the workers and other layers of the population against capitalism / imperialism and against the power structures such as the bourgeois state, the EU institutions , .....

- for international solidarity and proletarian internationalism with all workers and peoples who fight against interventions and wars, who fight against imperialism and colonialism

- for a new society, for socialism!
