CP of India, Hartal Near Total and A Grand Success Left Parties in the Forefront in Nationwide Protests

The All India Hartal on September 10, 2018, was near total and a great success in most of the states with left parties playing a predominant role in exposing the misdeeds of RSS-controlled BJP government led by Narendra Modi which resulted in unprecedented hike in the prices of all petroleum products including LPG cylinders. Reports reaching party headquarters say that the all India hartal was successful and total in states like Kerala, Bihar, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Odisha, West Bengal, Assam and Manipur. The hartal programme was partial in the remaining states.

In the national capital members, activists and supporters of left parties led by CPI general secretary S Sudhakar Reddy, CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury, SUCI leader P K Sharma, CPI (ML) leader Purushothamam Sharma, CGPI leader Santhosh Kumar along with national council secretaries Dr K Narayana, Amarjeet Kaur, D Raja MP, Binoy Viswam and Atul Kumar Anjaan along with other national leaders of CPI(M) courted arrest in front of Parliament House. They were removed and let off later by the Parliament Street Police. Delhi state left parties’ leaders including CPI Delhi state council secretary and assistant secretary Dhirendra Sharma and Dinesh Varshney also took part in the programme.

The left party members, activists and supporters assembled in the national capital at Jantar Mantar since morning holding placards demanding roll back of the hiked prices and steps to curb rising prices of all essential commodities. They were shouting slogans against the anti-people and pro-corporate policies of the Modi government.

They were addressed by the national leaders of the left parties. CPI general secretary S Sudhakar Reddy addressing the protesters said that the anger among the general masses against the misdeeds of the Modi government which have made the daily life of common man miserable is well reflected in today’s mass protests all over the country under the leadership of the opposition parties in general and left parties in particular. The mass assertion that Modi cannot go on looting the people is definitely going to ensure defeat of Modi and Co in the ensuing election in four states as well as in the general elections to be held in 2019. He explained in detail the cascading effect the rise in the price of petroleum products have on the prices of all essential items of daily life.

CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury said PM Modi has proved himself to be ‘pocket mar’ Modi putting one and all in the country into unheard of miseries. Thanks to the distress and frustration among the RSS-BJP leaders who are pushing the country to ransom, all the opposition parties have come together to save the people from the atrocities committed on the people.

Dr K Narayana and Amarjeet Kaur who also addressed the protesters said that the people are in no mood to bear with the loot of the Modi government and will the BJP governments out at the earliest occasion.  The programme in Delhi was conducted by Dinesh Varshney.

In Bihar alone more 1000 CPI members were held.
