We were watching your press conference on Sunday announcing dates of elections to 2019 Parliament and four legislative assemblies of Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha and Sikkim. We appreciate the Election Commission for preparing the nation for elections with 90 crore voters. We would like to bring the following points for your consideration:

  1. We are disappointed that you did not announce the counting of VVPATs at least in constituencies where EVMs are challenged and the victory margin less than 5000 votes. We do not know whether your committee will decide soon on this issue. This is necessary to restore confidence in EVMs.
  2. We are surprised that Jammu and Kashmir state legislative assembly election is not announced along with Parliament election. Kashmir situation is tense. But if Parliament elections can be held, assembly elections also can be held. Even now Election Commission can take a decision in this regard.
  3. Election Commission’s directive to political parties to desist from using army, their posters etc in election campaign is a welcome move. But directive alone may not be enough. Army, its sacrifices are above politics. We request you to ban the name of armed forces, their action in election campaign for a fair election.

Please consider our suggestions.
