A Call for Struggle against NATO:
THE TIME HAS COME — TODAY IS THE DAY
The imperialist powers have declared war on humanity under the guise of “the time has come.”
They enthusiastically support the Zionist state's brutal campaign to displace the Palestinian people through massacres and oppression. With relentless aggression, they aim to expand Israel’s borders by annexing more occupied territory.
The same motives behind the killing of tens of thousands of Palestinians now works for the ongoing bombing of Lebanon. The same logic drives the treacherous terrorist attacks and airstrikes on Lebanon, the regime change operation in Syria, and the installation of a puppet jihadist government in Damascus.
They have decided to redraw borders, destabilize governments, and plunge countries into chaos in order to maintain their hegemony, seize energy resources, and control trade routes. They believe the time has come.
It was predictable that Iran would be next after Syria. Once again, they have resorted to the familiar pretext of “weapons of mass destruction.” Despite Iran’s consistent denial of nuclear weapons development and compliance with international inspections, they began bombing the country with their own weapons of mass destruction—brazenly threatening the world and boasting of their power.
Now, everyone is asking: “Who’s next?” While it’s difficult to predict the full outcome of the assault on Iran, the question is legitimate.
The U.S., U.K., and Israel—the trio attempting to reconfigure the region—may also see Turkey as a potential target in this operation.
For years, successive Turkish governments believed that NATO membership and close relations with the U.S. ensured Turkey’s security. From their perspective, this belief made sense—because their understanding of "security" meant safeguarding the system of exploitation in Turkey, not protecting the people. The people didn’t matter to them. At times, they even collaborated with the U.S. to stage coups against their own citizens in defense of that exploitative order.
Later, the Soviet Union—which was presented as the very reason for NATO’s existence—collapsed. Yet NATO not only survived, it expanded and became the cause of overt or covert wars and occupations.
But in Turkey, despite efforts by revolutionaries and communists, NATO was never truly scrutinized. Membership and close ties with the U.S. remained the cornerstone of national security policy.
Even NATO critics hesitated. “If we leave NATO, we become a U.S. target,” they said—echoing the same fear-mongering as those who claim, “Russia will devour us if we exit.”
But now even the ruling elite and elements of the state bureaucracy are asking: “Is Turkey next?” The old confidence in NATO membership as a security guarantee is eroding. However, their solution is to draw even closer to the U.S., take on more responsibilities within NATO, and throw themselves into regional operations—like in Syria—in hopes of turning threats into opportunities and increasing the influence of Turkey’s ruling monopolies and religious sects.
We say the time has come. If the imperialists believe the time has come, then we respond in kind: The time has come.
It is time to question NATO. It is time to take real, decisive steps to withdraw from NATO. It is time for NATO to leave Turkey.
The initiative must come from the people—those who have suffered under NATO’s policies. NATO is a coup-maker. NATO is an occupier. NATO is a conspirator. NATO is the enemy of the people, even in the member states.
The time has come.
We call on all political parties: Let us have an honest debate. Does NATO truly provide security to Turkey, or is it a threat to our country just as it is to the rest of the region? If you refuse to discuss it, we will bring the debate to your doorstep.
Let’s discuss the U.S. military bases in Turkey: İncirlik, Kürecik, and others. Let’s discuss the U.S. nuclear weapons stationed on our soil.
The time has come. Every citizen must rise against this deception and stand up to the threat that endangers our people and undermines our country’s independence and sovereignty.
Academics, journalists, and intellectuals who love their country must speak out and take action. Turkey must exit NATO. All foreign military bases and troops must be expelled from our land.
There is no time to waste. The moment is now.
Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) will fulfill its duty in this struggle.
