On the Spanish Government's change of stance about Western Sahara

The Spanish Government, via a letter signed by Pedro Sánchez, has modified the official stance on the conflict in Western Sahara, thus supporting the stance held by Morocco all over the years —Sahara would become an autonomous province within the Alawite kingdom.

A new treason of social democracy that does not surprise us, as it comes from the government of social democracy which, with its passiveness in the last months against the blackmails and provocations of the Moroccan Government, refuses to take the historic role it should play as ancient colonizers of Western Sahara, sells weapons to Morocco so it continues its expansionist and invasion policies —a sale, by the way, they do not pretend to stop as Morocco is for the Government a “strategic partner” which the Government pretends to “have the best neighborly relation possible” with.

The Spanish Government's change of stance comes from its interest to secure its position within the EU and NATO. This context explains the growing presence on military missions abroad, the significant contribution to the sending of weapons to Ukraine, the organization of the NATO Summit in June or the announcement of an important increase in military expenditures. We are verifying again how social democracy promotes the geostrategic interests —which eventually benefit the Spanish monopolies— over the rights of peoples.

After a year-and-a-half war in Sahara, where our Sahrawi brothers and sisters are being mistreated, arrested and/or murdered, the PSOE-UP Government attacks again and shows its cards, refusing once more the right to self-determination to the Sahrawi people and submitting to the wants of the Moroccan Government.

The PCTE expresses its full support to the Sahrawi people, the Polisario Front, and the Sahrawi People's Liberation Army in this new aggression. It points out to the Government of social democracy as the direct accomplice of the conflict, as it participates in the violation of all rights in Western Sahara. At the same time, it demands the Spanish Government to fulfill its historic responsibilities to Western Sahara and abandon its joint war and colonization policy with Morocco.

Ante el cambio de postura del Gobierno español sobre el Sáhara Occidental

El Gobierno español, a través de una carta firmada por Pedro Sánchez, ha modificado la posición oficial sobre el conflicto del Sahara Occidental, pasando a apoyar la posición mantenida por Marruecos a lo largo de tantos años: que el Sáhara pase a ser una provincia autónoma del reino alauita.

Una nueva traición de la socialdemocracia que nada nos sorprende viniendo del gobierno de la socialdemocracia, puesto que, con su pasividad en los últimos meses ante los chantajes y provocaciones del Gobierno marroquí, se niega a asumir el papel histórico que le corresponde como antiguos colonizadores del Sáhara Occidental, vendiendo armas a Marruecos para seguir con su política expansionista y de invasión, venta, por otra parte, que no tienen intención de parar puesto que para el Gobierno, Marruecos es un “socio estratégico” del que quiere tener “la mejor relación de vecindad posible”.

El cambio de postura del Gobierno español parte de su interés por afianzar sus posiciones en el seno de la UE y la OTAN, contexto en el que se explica la creciente presencia en misiones militares en el extranjero, la importante aportación al envío de armas a Ucrania, la organización de la Cumbre de la OTAN en junio o el anuncio de un incremento importante del gasto militar. Nuevamente, comprobamos cómo la socialdemocracia hace primar los intereses geoestratégicos, que benefician en última instancia a los monopolios españoles, sobre los derechos de los pueblos.

Después de año y medio de guerra en el Sáhara, donde nuestros hermanos y hermanas saharauis están siendo maltratados, detenidos y/o asesinados, el gobierno PSOE-UP vuelve al ataque y muestra sus cartas, negando una vez más el derecho de autodeterminación al pueblo saharaui y sometiéndose a los deseos del gobierno de Marruecos.

El PCTE expresa todo su apoyo al pueblo saharaui, al Frente Polisario y al Ejército de Liberación Popular en esta nueva agresión y señala al gobierno de la socialdemocracia como cómplice directo del conflicto, siendo partícipe de la vulneración de todos los derechos del Sáhara Occidental. Al mismo tiempo exige al Gobierno español que cumpla sus responsabilidades históricas con el Sáhara Occidental y que abandone su política de guerra y colonización junto a Marruecos.
