On the USA-Israel Attacks Against Iran

The bombardments launched by the USA against Iran in support to the recent Israeli aggression against the Persian country are a new and dangerous step towards the generalized war. The succession of developments happening since October 2023 is headed to the consolidation of Israel as the dominant power in the region and is to be found within the framework of a wider global process of clash between powers and blocs.

The bombardments against the Iranian territory are the last episode of a process that began several decades ago even though it accelerated after October 7^th, 2023. It mainly answers to the interest of the Western capitalist powers to establish an area of influence in a region particularly relevant because of its geostrategical position.

As a result of such reality, the peoples in the area have suffered all kinds of aggression, interference, and attacks for decades. The peak level of this is the genocidal policy of Israel against the Palestinian people.

Israel has taken advantage of the events of October 7^th, 2023 to attempt to legitimize its expansionist policy. The argument of the alleged fight against Iranian “proxies” in its immediate surroundings and the defense of its national security has served not only to destroy Gaza and increase the pace of its criminal policy of creating settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, but also to put under military control several areas in Lebanon and Syria — in this last case after decisively contributing to the overthrow of the Al Assad Government. As we have repeatedly been warning, the next goal in this dynamic was Iran itself, already identified by the Western powers as the main enemy of their interests in the region. Iran has also been openly clashing with other regional powers that have been for years carrying out a process of rapprochement with Israel, endorsed by the USA — with which they have traditionally been allied.

The relevance all these powers give to the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East is a decisive factor in this situation. This is a strategical area not only because of the energy resources it has, but also because of the transportation routes of commodities going through it — the control of which is essential to stabilize the international commercial and supply chains.  From a military viewpoint, nobody misses that the control or influence on this area is highly relevant for the possibility of an aggression or an answer against the other powers or blocs. 

The US bombardments against Iran deny and expose those who stated that an allegedly isolationist shift by Trump was to make the international situation more peaceful. The strategical interests of the USA and its monopolies continue to be imposed by the power of arms if necessary, regardless of the rhetoric used by political managers.

The criminal attack of Israel and the USA against Iran means that, in such an internationally turbulent moment, the real danger of a generalized war in which the different powers and their allies directly clash can actually happen. This will be catastrophic for the working class and the peoples of the world.

Whether the Spanish authorities want it or not, our country is already engaged in this conflict. This is not only due to the role played by the different Governments in the acceptance and support to the Israeli role in the region in the last decades, but also due to the use of the military bases handed over to the United States for the start or support of its military missions —and NATO's— in the region. No condemnation to Israel, no gesture played to the gallery can erase the fact that the Spanish bourgeoisie is clearly engaged in the imperialist bloc most directly benefited by Israel's aggressiveness.

Anti-imperialism does not mean taking side by one or another imperialist power or alliance. It means struggling against the causes and the expressions of imperialist domination. In each country, this struggle takes different expressions according to the position and the role of the different bourgeois States in every conflict.

Our role and our struggle are therefore focused in the strengthening and development of the organization of the working-class and popular majority in our country against the rearming policies, against the participation of Spain in any kind of aggression against other peoples, and against the use of military bases on Spanish soil to continue the warmongering policy of the powers allied to the Spanish bourgeoisie.

We hence call on the immediate mobilization for these goals in all the country.

Ante los ataques de EEUU e Israel contra Irán

Los bombardeos que EEUU ha lanzado contra Irán, en apoyo a la reciente agresión israelí contra el país persa,suponen un nuevo y peligroso paso hacia la guerra generalizada. La sucesión de acontecimientos que viene produciéndose desde octubre de 2023 va encaminada a la consolidación de Israel como potencia hegemónica en la región y se enmarca en un proceso más amplio de confrontación entre potencias y bloques a nivel mundial. 

Los bombardeos contra territorio iraní son el último episodio de un proceso que, a pesar de acelerarse a partir del 7 de octubre de 2023, lleva gestándose varias décadas y que responde principalmente al interés de las potencias capitalistas occidentales por establecer una zona de influencia en una región especialmente relevante por su posición geoestratégica.

Fruto de esta realidad, los pueblos de la zona llevan décadas sufriendo agresiones, injerencias y ataques de todo tipo, cuyo punto álgido es la política genocida de Israel contra el pueblo palestino.

Israel ha aprovechado los sucesos del 7 de octubre de 2023 para tratar de legitimar su política expansionista. El argumento del supuesto combate contra los “proxies” iraníes en su entorno inmediato y la defensa de su seguridad nacional ha servido no solamente para destrozar Gaza y acelerar su criminal política de creación de asentamientos en Cisjordania y Jerusalén Este, sino para poner bajo control militar zonas del Líbano y de Siria, en este último caso tras contribuir decisivamente al derrocamiento del gobierno de Al Assad. Como hemos venido advirtiendo repetidamente, el siguiente objetivo en esta dinámica era el propio Irán, identificado ya por las potencias occidentales como principal enemigo de sus intereses en la región, enfrentado de manera abierta con otras potencias de la zona que llevan años en un proceso de acercamiento a Israel auspiciado por los EEUU, de quien han sido tradicionalmente aliadas.

La relevancia que todas las potencias otorgan al Mediterráneo Oriental y Oriente Medio es un factor determinante en esta situación. Se trata de una región estratégica no solamente por los recursos energéticos que alberga, sino también por las rutas de transporte de mercancías que la atraviesan, cuyo control es esencial para mantener estables las cadenas comerciales y de suministro internacionales. Desde el punto de vista militar, a nadie se le escapa que el control o la influencia sobre esa zona tiene una gran relevancia para la posibilidad de agresión o respuesta frente al resto de potencias o bloques.

Los bombardeos de EEUU contra Irán desmienten y dejan expuestos a quienes defendieron que el supuesto giro aislacionista de Trump iba a hacer más pacífica la situación internacional. Los intereses estratégicos de EEUU y sus monopolios siguen imponiéndose por la fuerza de las armas si es necesario, independientemente de la retórica que utilicen los gestores políticos. 

El criminal ataque de Israel y de EEUU contra Irán implica, en estos momentos tan convulsos a nivel internacional, el peligro real de que se produzca una guerra generalizada que enfrente directamente a las distintas potencias y a sus aliados, lo que será catastrófico para la clase obrera y los pueblos del mundo.

Lo quieran o no las autoridades españolas, nuestro país está inmerso ya en este conflicto. No sólo por el papel jugado por los distintos gobiernos en la aceptación y apoyo al papel de Israel en la región durante las últimas décadas, sino también por la utilización de las bases militares cedidas a los Estados Unidos para el lanzamiento o apoyo de sus misiones militares y de la OTAN en la región. Ninguna condena a Israel, ningún gesto de cara a la galería puede borrar el hecho de que la burguesía española está nítidamente inserta en el bloque imperialista que se beneficia más directamente de la agresividad de Israel. 

El antiimperialismo no significa la toma de partido por una u otra potencia o alianza imperialista. Significa luchar contra las causas y las expresiones de la dominación imperialista. En cada país esta lucha adopta distintas expresiones en función de la posición y el papel de los distintos Estados burgueses en cada conflicto. 

Nuestro papel y nuestra lucha se centran, por tanto, en el fortalecimiento y desarrollo de la organización de la mayoría obrera y popular de nuestro país contra las políticas de rearme, contra la participación de España en cualquier tipo de agresión contra otros pueblos y contra la utilización de las bases militares en suelo español para continuar la política belicista de las potencias aliadas de la burguesía española.

Llamamos, por ello, a la movilización inmediata por esos objetivos en todo el país.
