Iraqi Communist Party Condemns US Aggression

and Calls for an End to the Unjust War on the Iranian and Palestinian Peoples

The military attack carried out by the US on Iranian nuclear facilities at dawn today constitutes a blatant act of aggression against a sovereign state and a gross violation of its national sovereignty, the security and safety of its citizens, as well as a flagrant breach of international law. It goes against the principles of justice, peace, respect for the will of peoples, and the Charter of the United Nations. This is a dangerous escalation of the ongoing aggression by the Israel against Iran and its people, and of the genocidal war it is waging against the Palestinian people, in addition to its continuous attacks on Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen. This attack threatens to drag the region into a devastating war that would have dire consequences for regional and world peace and security.

These acts of aggression will not bring security or stability. They are intended to thwart efforts toward a political settlement to end the aggressive war launched by the fascist Netanyahu government under the pretext of the Iranian nuclear file, with blatant support from the Trump administration. This US military operation, conducted outside international legitimacy, represents a dangerous escalation of tensions in the region and the world, with unpredictable consequences. Moreover, this aggression constitutes another step toward implementing what is known as the “New Middle East Project,” aimed at tightening US-Israeli domination over the region and imposing dictates by brute force, in direct contradiction to the interests of its peoples and the sovereignty of its nations.

The United States’ involvement in the war, and the potential chain of actions and reactions, and wide-scale military confrontations that may follow, put Iraq’s security, national sovereignty, airspace integrity, and stability at increased risk. This is in addition to the serious environmental and health consequences that could result from radioactive leak due to the bombing of nuclear facilities. All this demands internal cohesion and careful political management of these rapidly unfolding developments, in a manner that protects our people and country from the repercussions of a wider war, and defends the country’s security, sovereignty, and national interests.

While we strongly condemn this blatant act of aggression by the US, in close coordination with its ally, the Zionist entity, and reaffirm our solidarity with the Iranian people, we call on the international community and the United Nations to fully assume their responsibilities to immediately stop these attacks, spare the peoples of the Middle East from their dangerous potential consequences, and safeguard regional and world peace.

The peoples of the region must also intensify pressure to thwart the plans of normalization with Israel, and hegemonic agendas, and to reject the logic of force in international relations. It is also time for voices to rise in strong condemnation of the continued genocide against the Palestinian people, especially in the Gaza Strip. They are called upon to demand an immediate end to this war of genocide and securing conditions necessary for the Palestinian people to exercise their legitimate right to establish their fully sovereign, independent national state on their land.
