Declaration of solidarity with the people of Morocco
International Committee of the NCPN and CJB
The NCPN and CJB declare their solidarity with the Moroccan people following the devastating earthquake that occurred on September 8. The NCPN and CJB offer their condolences to the families of the victims, especially the many Moroccan Dutch who lost their families and friends in this disaster.
Many people lost their lives, buildings were destroyed and the damage is very extensive. Often in the case of natural disasters, as we have seen for example with the floods in the Netherlands and the devastating earthquake in Turkey, we see that the government and bourgeoisie of the affected country do very little to actually help the affected people. Large-scale donations may provide relief to the population, but where is the real compensation for the loss of life and property in these situations? Where are the preventive measures that would be possible with the current state of our technology and science?
The central problem is the capitalist system, which does not put the needs of the population first, but the profits of a small group of capitalists. The system that Morocco also suffers from, a country that even still has a monarchy with actual strong political power. The capitalist system and its government inherently work against the interests of the people. How are those affected by this natural disaster to be helped if the government has these characteristics?
The NCPN and CJB condemn the negligence of the capitalist governments and citizenry. We will always fight for the rightful compensation of the workers affected by these natural disasters, but also for proper prevention to prevent the great loss of life in such natural disasters.
