For the 12th day running the mass demonstrations that started in Atbara on the 19th December has spread to the cities and towns all over the country. The main demand is the overthrow of the corrupt dictatorial regime.
Yesterday the masses took to the streets in the capital of North Kordufan, Alobied, western Sudan, and in Almanagil in central Sudan, echoing the ongoing struggles and repeating the demand for the regime to be overthrown.
- The regime continues to unleash its repressive campaigns with an attempt to halt the advance of the masses. The security forces arrested yesterday comrade Kamal Karar, member of the Central Committee of our party and Omer Aldigeir, president of the Sudanese Congress.
- Scores of university students from Darfur were detained and transported to security cells in Khartoum. News speak of horrific torture being used against the students. Their lives are clearly in danger.
- The Professional Alliance, which is member of the opposition group, has called upon its members to march the Republican Palace to demand the resignation of Albashir. All the opposition forces have expressed support for the march.
- The umbrella body that groups all the opposition forces, "ALTANSIEGYIA", has called for the continuation of the mass actions. It appealed to its members to participate in today’s march called by the Professional Alliance against the regime.
- The Political Bureau of the Sudanese CP, which met yesterday, issued a statement calling for more mass actions, stressing the need for further mobilization, organization and joint action on grassroot levels to prepare for the launching of a general political strike and mass civil disobedience.
-The number of the detainees have exceeded the 500 mark. This includes political leaders, professionals, students and workers.
Among the detainees are the following members of the Central Committee of the Sudanese CP: Siddig Yousif, Masoud Alhassan, Hanadi Fadl, Amal Gabralla, Kamal Karar, Sied Ahmed Alkhteeb, Tariq Abdalmagied.
The Secretariat of the Central Committee calls on all fraternal parties to increase their solidarity actions as the struggle of our peoples has entered a critical stage.
