As AKEL we would like to reiterate that we wholeheartedly support the President of the Republic in the difficult struggle he will wage over the next few days in New York.
We are confident that the President of the Republic, as he has continuously being doing so far, as with the forthcoming meeting in New York, will defend the principles of the solution of the Cyprus problem and the agreed procedure, remaining at the same time creative and constructive.
We express our regret because Mr. Anastasiades (Note: the leader of the right-wing main opposition DHSY party), whilst the President is called upon to wage the struggle of Cyprus, has chosen once again to attack him accusing the President of allegedly criticizing him in diplomatic circles.
In reply to our call to substantiate his charges, the Democratic Rally and Mr. Anastasiades have done nothing. Instead we were told that they always support the official positions of our side when addressing third parties. We certainly do not negate the contribution of any political force in the defence of Cyprus in various international and European forums.
But it is at least naive to believe that any third parties involved in the Cyprus problem are not following the public stance of the political forces and are not in a position to observe whether or not the President of the Republic or the transformations and changes witnessed by the Rally party and its President.
