Statement by the Socialist People’s Front
On the 18th of January, 2012, the 1st District Court in Vilnius decided to discharge the Chairman of the Socialist People’s Front Algirdas Paleckis in his trial over “the denial of the USSR aggression in 1991”.
This is a huge victory! A victory for those who struggle for the historical truth and for the freedom of conscience.
The ruling class in Lithuania and their puppet media has begun to exert an unprecedented pressure on the prosecuting magistracy to initiate an appeal for the Court of a higher instance. The local bourgeoisie and their subservient class of “political analysts” are experiencing another wave of anti-Socialist and anti-Communist hysteria. Naturally – after 20 years of their supposed hegemony in the politics and in the historiography, a Socialist political force has emerged in Lithuania which bravely challenges the whole capitalist system.
If the appeal is put forward, the ruling class will once again prove that their talks about the “human rights”, “democracy” and “legal State” are mere skullduggery.
The Socialist People’s Front is grateful for everyone who had expressed solidarity during the course of this trial – it has been especially important for us during the whole of the year 2011, during which we experienced political, economic and moral pressure of the state apparatus against our growing party – the Socialist People’s Front. We are also grateful for Your salutes over the Victory, even though so far only a single battle has been won. However, as the saying goes: “You can not stop the flow of the river…”
We have withstood. And we have managed to turn the attention of a large part of Lithuania’s (and not only) society to the suppressed aspects of the events that took place in 1991. Now the citizens will have to come to their own conclusions.
With our joint victory, Comrades!
Long live the solidarity of Marxist parties!
Long live Socialism!
