All solidarity with the peoples of Latin America!

Editorial from the newspaper O Poder Popular (The People's Power) No. 107 (July 2026) 

We are living through moments of extreme concern in Latin America. The desperate tragedy resulting from the recent earthquake in Venezuela claimed the lives of more than 4,500 people and injured around 17,000, with the UN estimating that up to 50,000 individuals may be missing. The difficulties in confronting this grave problem are treated by the bourgeois mainstream media as being the exclusive responsibility of the Venezuelan government, with not a single line of criticism directed at the invasion of the country provoked by U.S. imperialism, which kidnapped Nicolás Maduro and Cilia Flores, in addition to assassinating those who attempted to offer any resistance, such as the 32 Cuban heroes. Likewise, nothing is said about the blockade and sanctions promoted by the U.S. government, known as Unilateral Coercive Measures, which for years have suffocated the economy and directly affected Venezuela's infrastructure. 

We also see the advancement of the U.S. siege against Cuba, with the intensification of the economic, financial, and commercial blockade, energy strangulation, and threats of aggression against the Cuban people, with the Trump government now announcing a new package of "sanctions" against ten Cuban entities, including the Ministry of Tourism, the Foreign Trade Business Group (Gecomex), the Maritime Port Transport Business Group (Gemar), the energy companies Enetec and Coreydan, the Territorial Troops Militias, and the Association of Combatants of the Cuban Revolution. 

Parallel to this, the recent electoral results in Peru and Colombia, with the victory, even if narrow, of far-right candidates and allegations of fraud and vote manipulation, demonstrate that fascism has created strong footholds in Latin America. A conglomerate of governments aligned with the interests of U.S. imperialism is taking shape, which already included the reactionary leaders of Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, and Ecuador. 

On the other hand, the large mobilizations called by the Workers' Central and organizations of Indigenous peoples in Bolivia, despite the government's entire repressive apparatus, point the way toward resistance and popular demonstrations to curb the growth of the far-right on our continent. 

In Brazil, Bolsonarism plays the same shameful role of a fifth column for U.S. imperialism. While it poses as patriotic before the cameras, it conspires behind the scenes against national interests. While it wraps itself in the Brazilian flag, it kneels before the flag of the United States. While it speaks of sovereignty, it works to turn Brazil into a colony subordinated to Washington's interests. 

The actions of the Trump government against Brazil dismantle any illusion held by those who believed it was possible to establish a relationship of trust with U.S. imperialism. As the PCB has always warned, imperialism has no permanent friends, partners, or allies. It has only interests, through which it seeks to impose the subjugation of peoples, control over markets, the appropriation of strategic wealth, and the imposition of governments docile to its designs. 

Washington classified the Red Command (Comando Vermelho) and the PCC (Primeiro Comando da Capital) as terrorist organizations, creating a dangerous precedent to justify future interference in Brazilian internal affairs. It then announced new trade barriers and tariffs on national products, using ridiculous and arbitrary arguments to attack sectors of the Brazilian economy and pressure the Lula government. The announced measures aim merely to create pretexts to blackmail the country and plunder our wealth. 

In the face of this scenario, the construction of an Anti-Imperialist and Anti-Capitalist Front in Brazil and throughout Our America becomes increasingly urgent, one capable of bringing together revolutionary forces, trade union entities, popular organizations, youth, democratic sectors, and all those willing to defend the interests of the peoples and the working class. This Front will be stronger if we manage to form Anti-Imperialist Popular Committees in workplaces, schools, housing, and communities, so as to incorporate activists into this battle in defense of national and popular sovereignty. 

This struggle cannot be limited to the abstract defense of sovereignty. The defense of the nation is inseparably linked to the defense of the workers' agenda. There will be no national independence while the financial system controls the economy. There will be no sovereignty while our strategic wealth is subject to foreign capital. There will be no true democracy while the majority of the people remain excluded from political decisions. 

The hour demands organization, consciousness, and mobilization. Against the attacks of imperialism, let us go into struggle, promote resistance, and build Popular Power, toward Socialism!

Toda solidariedade aos povos da América Latina!

Editorial do Jornal O Poder Popular nº 107 (julho 2026) Vivemos momentos de extrema preocupação na América Latina. A desesperadora tragédia resultante do recente terremoto na Venezuela ceifou a vida de mais de 4 mil e quinhentas pessoas e feriu cerca de 17 mil, sendo estimado pela ONU o desaparecimento de até 50 mil indivíduos. As dificuldades para enfrentar o grave problema são tratadas pela grande mídia burguesa como de exclusiva responsabilidade do governo venezuelano, não havendo uma linha de crítica à invasão do país provocada pelo imperialismo estadunidense, que sequestrou Nicolas Maduro e Cilia Flores, além de ter assassinado aqueles que tentaram impor alguma resistência, a exemplo dos 32 heróis cubanos. De igual modo nada se fala a respeito do bloqueio e das sanções promovidas pelo governo dos EUA, conhecidas como Medidas Coercitivas Unilaterais, que há anos sufocam a economia e afetam diretamente a estrutura venezuelana. Vemos também o avanço do cerco dos EUA a Cuba, com o recrudescimento do bloqueio econômico, financeiro e comercial, o sufocamento energético e as ameaças de agressão contra o povo cubano. tendo o governo de Trump anunciado agora um novo pacote de “sanções” contra dez entidades cubanas, incluindo o Ministério do Turismo, o Grupo Empresarial de Comércio Exterior (Gecomex), o Grupo Empresarial de Transporte Portuário Marítimo (Gemar), as empresas de energia Enetec e Coreydan, as Milícias das Tropas Territoriais e a Associação de Combatentes da Revolução Cubana. Paralelamente a isso, os recentes resultados eleitorais no Peru e na Colômbia, com a vitória, mesmo que apertada, de candidatos da extrema-direita e denúncias de fraudes e manipulação de votos, demonstram que o fascismo criou fortes bases na América Latina. Está se formando um conglomerado de governos associados aos interesses do imperialismo estadunidense, do qual já faziam parte os líderes reacionários da Argentina, Chile, Bolívia e Equador. Em contrapartida, as grandes mobilizações convocadas pela Central Operária e organizações dos povos originários na Bolívia, em que pese todo o aparato repressivo do governo, apontam o caminho da resistência e das manifestações populares para barrar o crescimento da extrema-direita no nosso continente. No Brasil, o bolsonarismo adota o mesmo papel vergonhoso de quinta coluna do imperialismo dos EUA. Enquanto posa de patriota diante das câmeras, conspira nos bastidores contra os interesses nacionais. Enquanto se enrola na bandeira brasileira, ajoelha-se diante da bandeira dos Estados Unidos. Enquanto discursa sobre soberania, trabalha para transformar o Brasil numa colônia subordinada aos interesses de Washington. As ações do governo Trump contra o Brasil desmontam qualquer ilusão daqueles que acreditavam ser possível estabelecer uma relação de confiança com o imperialismo estadunidense. Como o PCB sempre alertou, o imperialismo não tem amigos, parceiros ou aliados permanentes. Tem apenas interesses, pelos quais busca impor a submissão dos povos, o controle dos mercados, a apropriação das riquezas estratégicas e a imposição de governos dóceis aos seus desígnios. Washington classificou o Comando Vermelho e o PCC como organizações terroristas, criando um perigoso precedente para justificar futuras ingerências em assuntos internos brasileiros. Em seguida, anunciou novas barreiras comerciais e tarifas contra produtos nacionais, utilizando argumentos ridículos e arbitrários para atacar setores da economia brasileira e pressionar o governo Lula. As medidas anunciadas visam apenas criar pretextos para chantagear o país e saquear nossas riquezas. Diante desse cenário, torna-se cada vez mais urgente a construção de uma Frente Anti-imperialista e Anticapitalista no Brasil e em toda Nossa América, capaz de reunir as forças revolucionárias, entidades sindicais, organizações populares, a juventude, os setores democráticos e todos aqueles/as dispostos/as a defender os interesses dos povos e da classe trabalhadora. Essa Frente será mais forte se conseguirmos formar Comitês Populares Anti-imperialistas nos locais de trabalho, estudo, moradia e nas comunidades, de forma a incorporar os/as ativistas nesta batalha em defesa da soberania nacional e popular. Essa luta não pode se limitar à defesa abstrata da soberania. A defesa da nação está inseparavelmente ligada à defesa da pauta dos trabalhadores e das trabalhadoras. Não haverá independência nacional enquanto o sistema financeiro controlar a economia. Não haverá soberania enquanto nossas riquezas estratégicas estiverem submetidas ao capital estrangeiro. Não haverá democracia verdadeira enquanto a maioria do povo permanecer excluída das decisões políticas. A hora exige organização, consciência e mobilização. Contra os ataques do imperialismo, vamos à luta, promover a resistência e construir o Poder Popular, no rumo do Socialismo! TODA SOLIDARIEDADE A CUBA E AOS POVOS DA AMÉRICA LATINA!
