The Brazilian Communist Party (PCB) expresses its strongest condemnation of the judicial conviction imposed on Comrade Ofer Cassif, an Israeli Member of Parliament representing Hadash and the Communist Party of Israel. On October 8, the Jerusalem Magistrate's Court convicted MP Ofer Cassif of "assaulting a police officer." 

The incident cited in the charges against Cassif took place in May 2022 in Masafer Yatta, in the South Hebron Hills of the occupied West Bank. The Masafer Yatta region is a frequent site of expulsion orders, home demolitions, movement restrictions, and acts of violence committed by military forces and Israeli settlers. The daily reality and resistance of the region's residents are portrayed in the acclaimed documentary *No Other Land*, winner of the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature. 

Cassif had arrived at the site to participate in a demonstration protesting a Supreme Court ruling that ordered the evacuation of villages in the area and the expulsion of their Palestinian residents. The occupation army had declared the area a closed military zone and restricted the passage of buses carrying Hadash activists. MP Cassif, who enjoys parliamentary immunity, was prevented by a Border Police officer from entering the area where the protesters were gathered; he was permitted to enter only on foot. "I did not assault a police officer; that is a blatant lie. The officer pushed my hand, and I pushed it away," MP Cassif said at the time. In response to the recent court ruling, Comrade Cassif stated: "Attempts to silence voices that fight against the government and expose its crimes demonstrate not respect for the rule of law, but rather fear of an inconvenient truth. Shutting down the court will neither eliminate the struggle nor silence our voices—it merely highlights how biased the system is and how it is geared toward political score-settling led by Kahanists, most of whom are habitual criminals. It is they who continue to inflict terror and dread upon Palestinians in Masafer Yatta and throughout the occupied West Bank, right at the peak of the harvest season." "We will continue to fight and to shed light for our society and our suffering people. No more occupation, no more bloodshed; yes to peace." 

The Joint List, the electoral coalition of which Hadash is a part, also commented on the conviction of its candidate Cassif, declaring: "While Ben Gvir backs the police officers who harass those fighting alongside the residents of Masafer Yatta, following the court ruling in the political persecution trial against MK Ofer Cassif, we stand by him and protest the preference given to the testimony of the officers involved in the incident over that of human rights activists. (...) We also express solidarity with the residents of Masafer Yatta, who have suffered severe attacks by settlers in recent days under the auspices of the army and the government. We will continue to stand by them, fighting for their rights and ensuring their voices are heard."  

The PCB expresses its full solidarity with Comrade Ofer Cassif, Hadash, and the Communist Party of Israel, and asserts that the ultra-reactionary and genocidal government of Benjamin Netanyahu and Ben Gvir is the primary perpetrator and instigator of the current wave of violence against the Palestinian population. The PCB unreservedly supports the resistance struggle against the Zionist occupation of Palestinian territories, the immediate end of the occupation, and the Palestinian people's inalienable rights to their land and to peace.

TODA SOLIDARIEDADE AO PARTIDO COMUNISTA DE ISRAEL E AO CAMARADA OFER CASSIF!

O Partido Comunista Brasileiro – PCB – manifesta seu mais veemente repúdio à condenação judicial imposta ao camarada deputado israelense Ofer Cassif, do Hadash e do Partido Comunista de Israel. O Tribunal de Magistrados de Jerusalém condenou na quinta-feira 08/10 passado o deputado Ofer Cassif  por “agressão a um agente da polícia”.  

O incidente atribuído a Cassif na acusação ocorreu em maio de 2022 em Masafar Yatta, no sul das colinas de Hebron, na Cisjordânia ocupada. A região de Masafar Yatta é palco constante de ordens de expulsão, demolições de casas, restrições de circulação e episódios de violência por parte de forças militares e colonos israelenses. A realidade cotidiana e a resistência dos moradores da região são retratadas no aclamado documentário No Other Land, vencedor do Oscar de Melhor Filme Documentário. 

Cassif chegou ao local para participar de uma manifestação em protesto contra a decisão da Suprema Corte, que ordenou a evacuação de aldeias na região e a expulsão de seus moradores palestinos. O exército de ocupação declarou a área como zona militar fechada e restringiu a passagem de ônibus com ativistas do Hadash. O deputado Cassif, que goza de imunidade parlamentar, foi impedido por um policial da Guarda de Fronteira de entrar na área onde os manifestantes estavam, permitindo-lhe apenas a entrada a pé. "Eu não agredi um policial, isso é uma mentira descarada. O policial empurrou minha mão e eu a afastei", disse o deputado Cassif na ocasião. 

Em resposta à decisão judicial de agora, o camarada Cassif afirmou: "As tentativas de silenciar as vozes que lutam contra o governo e expõem seus crimes não demonstram o respeito ao Estado de Direito, mas sim o medo de uma verdade incômoda. Fechar o tribunal não eliminará a luta nem silenciará nossas vozes – apenas deixa claro o quão tendencioso é o sistema e como ele está voltado para acertos de contas políticas, liderado por kahanistas, a maioria dos quais são criminosos contumazes. São eles que continuam a infligir terror e pavor aos palestinos em Masafer Yatta e em toda a Cisjordânia ocupada, no auge da época da colheita." "Continuaremos a lutar e a trazer luz à nossa sociedade e ao nosso povo que sofrem. Basta de ocupação, basta de derramamento de sangue, sim à paz". 

A Lista Conjunta, coligação eleitoral da qual o Hadash faz parte, também se manifestou sobre a condenação de seu candidato Cassif, declarando: "Enquanto Ben Gvir apoia os policiais que perseguem aqueles que lutam ao lado dos moradores de Masafar Yatta, após a decisão judicial no julgamento por perseguição política contra o deputado Ofer Cassif, nós o apoiamos e protestamos contra a preferência dada aos depoimentos dos policiais envolvidos no incidente em detrimento dos depoimentos de ativistas de direitos humanos. (...) Expressamos também solidariedade aos moradores de Masafer Yatta, que têm sofrido ataques severos de colonos nos últimos dias, sob os auspícios do exército e do governo. Continuaremos ao lado deles, lutando por seus direitos e fazendo com que suas vozes sejam ouvidas”. 

O PCB manifesta integral solidariedade ao camarada Ofer Cassif, ao Hadash e ao Partido Comunista de Israel, e afirma que o governo ultrarreacionário e genocida de Benjamin Nethanyahu e Ben Gvir é o principal autor e estimulador da atual onda de violência contra a população palestina. O PCB apoia irrestritamente a luta de resistência contra a ocupação sionista dos territórios palestinos, pelo fim imediato da ocupação e pelos direitos inalienáveis do povo palestino à terra e à paz.
