PCB: 104 Years of a History of Struggles

The Brazilian Communist Party (PCB) will celebrate 104 years of existence on March 25, 2026. This is a historic date because it represents over a century of trajectory for the country's oldest political operator, which has been present in all the struggles of the Brazilian proletariat throughout this period. Even while operating underground for most of its existence, the PCB never ceased to influence Brazilian society, and for that very reason, it produced the greatest popular heroes of the 20th century.

The trajectory of the centenary Brazilian Communist Party (PCB) is a constitutive part of Brazil's history. The PCB was born as a consequence of the workers' struggles that had been developing since the end of the 19th century in Brazil and which expanded between 1917 and 1920 under the influence of the victorious Bolshevik revolution in Russia.

If, in its genesis, the libertarian ideals of the nascent proletariat converged, in its development and consolidation, the processes of maturation of a political organization were synthesized, an organization that sought (and still seeks to this day) to combine within its ranks the most prominent militants from the struggles of workers and representatives of the Brazilian intelligentsia and culture.

When it became a true party of national dimensions, after the Second World War, the PCB revealed itself as the instance of universalization of a political will that merged the world of labor with the cultural world. Our comrades have distinguished themselves in the fields of science, literature, visual arts, music, culture in general, television, and soccer. It is also noteworthy that the vast majority of the achievements of Brazilian workers bear the imprint of the PCB.

For all these reasons, it can be said with confidence that the PCB is part of the Brazilian civilizing process and, as the poet Ferreira Gullar said, anyone who writes the history of Brazil and the struggles of our people and does not mention the PCB would be lying.

Throughout our trajectory, we paid a high price for the audacity of acting unconditionally alongside workers in the struggle against imperialism, for the Brazilian revolution, and for socialism. The bourgeoisie never forgave us for this audacity, and for that very reason, it brutally persecuted us for several decades. Countless times, the dominant classes and their dictatorial regimes, the factionalists, and the enemies of the people tried to destroy the PCB, but they failed because the Party is part of the Brazilian working class, and with each attack, it manages to re-emerge more tempered, like a red phoenix.

WE WERE, WE ARE, AND WE WILL BE COMMUNISTS!

The PCB has experienced all forms of struggle: it organized the armed uprising of 1935, the peasant guerrillas of Trombas and Formoso and Porecatu; it participated in the founding of the UNE (National Union of Students), in the struggles of Brazilian youth, and in the "The Oil is Ours" campaign; it was the main organizer of urban and rural unions, as well as federations, confederations, and national trade union centers up until before the 1964 coup; it participated in institutional struggles in Parliament and within social and political entities; it resisted two dictatorships while operating underground and remains steadfast in the struggle for the construction of a socialist society in Brazil.

It has always been active in all struggles for the rights of the Brazilian people as a whole and remains steadfast in the battles of the working class; of Black people against racism; of women against sexism, misogyny, and feminicide; of LGBTQ+ people against oppression; of Indigenous peoples for the demarcation of their lands; in the anti-asylum and anti-ableist movements; in occupations, land reclamations, proletarian neighborhoods, and territories; for the right to land, housing, full access to health, education, culture, transportation, and a full life.

We, the militants of the PCB, of the Classist Unity (Unidade Classista), the Communist Youth Union (União da Juventude Comunista), the Ana Montenegro Classist Feminist Collective (Coletivo Feminista Classista Ana Montenegro), the Minervino de Oliveira Black Collective (Coletivo Negro Minervino de Oliveira), and the Communist LGBTQ+ Collective (Coletivo LGBT Comunista), take great pride in this history and strive to honor the struggles of comrades from all generations, who gave the best of their lives to keep our Party alive and active.

Therefore, we look to the future with optimism and will remain steadfast in combating the bourgeoisie and imperialism, organizing workers against the capitalist system, and holding high the banner of popular power, the Brazilian revolution, and socialism, towards a classless society, free from exploitation and oppression: communism.

PCB: 104 anos de uma história de lutas

O Partido Comunista Brasileiro (PCB) completa, em 25 de março de 2026, 104 anos de existência. Trata-se de uma data histórica porque representa mais de um século de trajetória do mais antigo operador político do país, que esteve presente em todas as lutas do proletariado brasileiro nesse período. Mesmo atuando a maior parte de sua existência na clandestinidade, o PCB nunca deixou de influir na sociedade brasileira e, por isso mesmo, produziu os maiores heróis populares do século XX.

A trajetória do centenário Partido Comunista Brasileiro (PCB) é parte constitutiva da história do Brasil. O PCB nasceu em consequência das lutas operárias que vinham se desenvolvendo desde o final do século XIX no Brasil e que se ampliaram entre 1917 e 1920 sob influência da vitoriosa revolução bolchevique na Rússia.

Se, na sua gênese, convergiram os ideais libertários do nascente proletariado, no seu desenvolvimento e consolidação foram sintetizados os processos de maturação de uma organização política que buscava (e ainda busca até hoje) conjugar em suas fileiras os mais destacados militantes das lutas dos trabalhadores, das trabalhadoras e representantes da intelectualidade e da cultura brasileira.

Quando se tornou um verdadeiro partido de dimensões nacionais, após a Segunda Guerra Mundial, o PCB revelou-se como a instância de universalização de uma vontade política que fundia o mundo do trabalho com o mundo cultural. Nossos e nossas camaradas se destacaram nos campos da ciência, da literatura, das artes plásticas, da música, da cultura em geral, da televisão e do futebol, ressaltando-se ainda que a grande maioria das conquistas das trabalhadoras e dos trabalhadores brasileiros tem a digital do PCB.

Por tudo isso, pode-se dizer tranquilamente que o PCB é parte do processo civilizatório brasileiro e, como disse o poeta Ferreira Gullar, quem escrever a história do Brasil e das lutas de nosso povo e não falar do PCB estará mentindo.

Ao longo da nossa trajetória pagamos um alto preço pela ousadia de estar incondicionalmente atuando junto aos trabalhadores e às trabalhadoras, na luta contra o imperialismo, pela revolução brasileira e o socialismo. A burguesia nunca nos perdoou por essa ousadia e, por isso mesmo, nos perseguiu de maneira brutal ao longo de várias décadas. Inúmeras vezes as classes dominantes e seus regimes ditatoriais, os fracionistas e os inimigos do povo tentaram acabar com o PCB, mas não conseguiram porque o Partido é parte da classe trabalhadora brasileira e, a cada ataque, consegue ressurgir mais temperado como uma fênix vermelha.

FOMOS, SOMOS E SEREMOS COMUNISTAS!

O PCB experimentou todas as formas de luta: organizou a insurreição armada de 1935, as guerrilhas camponesas de Trombas e Formoso e Porecatu; participou da fundação da UNE, das lutas da juventude brasileira e da campanha do Petróleo é Nosso; foi o principal organizador dos sindicatos urbanos e do campo, além das federações, confederações e centrais sindicais nacionais até antes do golpe de 1964; participou da luta institucional no Parlamento e nas entidades sociais e políticas; resistiu na clandestinidade a duas ditaduras e segue firme na luta pela construção da sociedade socialista no Brasil.

Sempre atuou em todas as lutas pelos direitos do conjunto do povo brasileiro e segue firme nas batalhas da classe trabalhadora, de negros e negras contra o racismo, das mulheres contra o machismo, a misoginia e o feminícidio, das LGBTs contra as opressões, dos povos indígenas pela demarcação de suas terras, nos movimentos antimanicomiais e anticapacitistas, nas ocupações, retomadas, bairros proletários e territórios, pelo direito à terra, à moradia, ao acesso pleno à saúde, educação, cultura, transportes, cultura e a uma vida plena.

Nós, militantes do PCB, da Unidade Classista, União da Juventude Comunista, do Coletivo Feminista Classista Ana Montenegro, Coletivo Negro Minervino de Oliveira e Coletivo LGBT Comunista, sentimos muito orgulho dessa história e procuramos honrar as lutas dos e das camaradas de todas as gerações, que deram o melhor de suas vidas para manter vivo e atuante o nosso Partido.

Por isso, olhamos com otimismo o futuro e seguiremos firmes combatendo a burguesia e o imperialismo, organizando os trabalhadores e as trabalhadoras contra o sistema capitalista e mantendo bem alto a bandeira do poder popular, da revolução brasileira e do socialismo, rumo a uma sociedade sem classes, sem exploração e livre das opressões: o comunismo.

LONGA VIDA AO PARTIDO COMUNISTA BRASILEIRO!

É IMPOSSÍVEL ACABAR COM O PARTIDÃO! PELO PODER POPULAR, PELO SOCIALISMO, RUMO AO COMUNISMO!
