Political Statement from the Brazilian Communist Party (PCB)

The Brazilian Communist Party (PCB) publicly condemns the U.S. aggression against Venezuela, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday, January 3rd, in various cities across the country, particularly in the states of Miranda, Aragua, and La Guaira, as well as the kidnapping of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores.

This attack on the national and popular sovereignty of Venezuela, promoted by the Trump administration, aims to seize strategic resources, especially oil and rare minerals, and to counter the advances that the Bolivarian revolution has brought to the popular movement in recent years. Trump intends to establish an imperialist protectorate on the continent to coordinate future attacks and threats against governments that do not follow Washington's orders. It is unacceptable for foreign forces to kidnap Maduro and his partner. This is an act of international terrorism.

This aggression is part of a strategy to dominate the entire Latin American continent and will not be confined to Venezuela alone. Colombia, Cuba, and Nicaragua will certainly be the next targets in Latin America. On the international stage, threats against Iran also continue.

The Brazilian government, up to now, has maintained a timid and pusillanimous stance regarding the signs of imminent U.S. aggression, capitulating to the blackmail and external pressures that sought to isolate the Venezuelan government.

The attempt to impose foreign domination over Venezuela in alliance with fascist oligarchies is a sign of escalating tensions and conflicts that are present and threaten all the peoples of the region.

We express our full solidarity with the Venezuelan people and their right to self-determination and legitimate defense against the military attacks promoted by the United States, as well as the necessary reaction against those who attempt to sabotage and support foreign invasion on Venezuelan territory. In an imperialist aggression, there is no middle ground: one either stands in solidarity with the attacked and aggrieved people or is complicit in the aggression.

The imperialist action must be met with the most vehement expression of rejection of imperialist interventionism and solidarity with the Venezuelan people in their legitimate right to defense and struggle for their freedom.

We call on all our members to join forces in popular demonstrations and mobilizations against the terrorist aggression promoted by the U.S. government!

For the self-determination of the Venezuelan people!

For the immediate release of President Maduro and Cilia Flores!

O Partido Comunista Brasileiro (PCB) vem a público repudiar a agressão dos EUA contra a Venezuela ocorrida na madrugada deste sábado, 03 de janeiro, em diversas cidades do país, em especial nos estados Miranda, Aragua e La Guaira, bem como o sequestro do Presidente Nicolás Maduro e de sua esposa Cilia Flores.

Esse atentado contra a soberania nacional e popular na Venezuela, promovido pelo governo Trump, tem como objetivo apoderar-se dos recursos estratégicos, em especial o petróleo e minerais raros, além de combater os avanços que a revolução bolivariana proporcionou ao movimento popular nos últimos anos. Trump pretende estabelecer um protetorado imperialista no continente, de modo a coordenar futuros ataques e ameaças aos governos que não sigam as ordens de Washington. É inadmissível que forças estrangeiras sequestrem Maduro e a sua companheira. Trata-se de um ato de terrorismo internacional.

Essa agressão é parte de uma estratégia de dominação de todo o continente latino-americano e não ficará restrita apenas à Venezuela. Colômbia, Cuba, Nicarágua certamente serão os próximos alvos na América Latina. No cenário internacional, seguem também as ameaças ao Irã.

O governo brasileiro, até aqui, manteve uma postura acanhada e pusilânime em relação aos sinais da iminente agressão dos EUA, capitulando diante das chantagens e pressões externas que buscavam isolar o governo venezuelano.

A tentativa de impor o domínio estrangeiro sobre a Venezuela em aliança com as oligarquias fascistas é um sinal de recrudescimento das tensões e conflitos que estão postos e ameaçam a todos os povos da região.

Expressamos nossa total solidariedade ao povo venezuelano e seu direito à autodeterminação e legítima defesa contra os ataques bélicos promovidos pelos EUA, assim como a necessária reação contra aqueles que tentam sabotar e apoiar a invasão estrangeira no território venezuelano. Numa agressão imperialista não existe meio termo: ou se solidariza com o povo agredido e atacado ou se é cúmplice da agressão.

A ação imperialista deve ser respondida com a mais veemente manifestação de repulsa ao intervencionismo imperialista e solidariedade ao povo venezuelano em seu legítimo direito de defesa e luta por sua liberdade.

Convocamos toda a nossa militância a somarem forças nos atos e mobilizações populares contra a agressão terrorista promovida pelo governo dos EUA!
