Solidarity with the patriotic resistance of the Venezuelan civic–military union against U.S. imperialism!
Resolution of the Central Committee of the Communist Party (Switzerland) of January 3, 2026
The Communist Party (Switzerland) strongly condemns the criminal military aggression against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the abduction of the legitimate President Nicolás Maduro Moros and his wife Cilia Flores, and demands their immediate release.
The terrorist operation launched by the imperialist regime of the United States is not only yet another act of piracy and a blatant violation of international law of unprecedented gravity, but also exposes the intrinsically imperialist nature of the liberal Atlantic system, whose purpose is to plunder major natural resources — resources of which Venezuela is particularly rich. Only the naïve (or provocateurs) could have believed the mendacious pretext of “drug trafficking,” just as twenty years ago the so-called “export of democracy” was nothing but a fairy tale.
The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, with its consistent stance in support of the peoples of Donbass and Palestine, has for many years been a target of Atlantic imperialism, Zionism, and their media apparatus: not only because it embarked on a revolutionary path oriented toward socialism, but above all because it refused to surrender its national sovereignty, avoiding liberalizations and privatizations that would have sold the country off to Euro-American big capital.
In this continuous escalation — first media-driven, then economic, later cultural (with the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to the Venezuelan fascist María Corina Machado), and now even military — the passive acquiescence of the European Union and Switzerland itself stands out. Obviously — and there is nothing surprising about this — there will be no sanctions against the aggressor (if anything, those already imposed on Venezuela will remain in place), nor will there be any arms supplies to the country under attack. Nor will there be a chorus of indignant statements from the army of conformist pseudo-intellectuals (from both the right and the so-called “left”) who, from 2022 to today, have fed us an asphyxiating and mendacious war propaganda.
On the contrary, we should expect expressions of false friendship toward the Venezuelan people, which must be unmasked: those who hide behind the opportunistic slogan “neither with Trump nor with Maduro,” and those who fail to defend the civic-military unity between the Venezuelan people and the anti-imperialist coalition organized within the Great Patriotic Pole “Simón Bolívar,” are in fact supporters of war, even if they claim to be pacifists.
We appeal to the Swiss Federal Council to show the dignity to urgently summon the U.S. ambassador in Bern and to clearly condemn not only the war of aggression waged by the U.S. regime, but also the kidnapping of President Maduro, demanding his immediate release. The United States has deliberately carried out an attack on international law: will Bern wake up, or will it continue to pursue a policy of double standards?
As our Party has reiterated for a decade, the decline of the Atlantic liberal system is irreversible. The opening of ever more armed conflict fronts and the overthrow of any form of government that is even vaguely patriotic represent desperate moves — though no less dangerous or bloody — to seize any resource (first and foremost oil) and any strategic position in order to slow the consolidation of a multipolar world. Indeed, the attack on Venezuela is simultaneously an attack on the New Silk Road promoted by China.
We are facing a devastating precedent for the very credibility of the United Nations, but not only that: it represents a threat to the sovereignty and rights of other peoples, first and foremost those of Latin America and the Caribbean (Cuba, Nicaragua, Colombia, Brazil, Mexico, etc.), but in reality of the entire world, as demonstrated by U.S. bombings against countries in the Middle East and Africa and by coordination with the genocidal regime of the Zionist Entity. The pressure to destroy Swiss neutrality and definitively absorb Switzerland into NATO also responds to this war-oriented strategic design. Kidnapping a sitting president of a sovereign state and bringing him before a court of a third country without suffering consequences — other than pathetic press releases expressing “concern” — finally exposes any supposed superiority of the hypocritical Western liberal model.
We express our solidarity with the Venezuelan people and government, who will defend their Revolution and the independence of the homeland of Simón Bolívar by any means necessary, and we call for participation in the demonstrations scheduled for Sunday, January 4 at 3:00 p.m. in Bellinzona and Monday, January 5 at 5:30 p.m. in Lausanne.
