Beginning in the early morning hours of Saturday, Feb. 28, 2026 — first day of the Iranian work and school week, and during Ramadan — the United States, with its ally Israel, started what President Trump called a “major combat operation” in Iran under the name Operation Epic Fury. Israel’s parallel operation is called Roaring Lion. U.S. and Israeli officials confirmed months of joint planning preceded the attack. This despite the Oman foreign minister announcing just hours before the strikes that nuclear talks had made a “breakthrough” — Iran had reportedly agreed to not stockpile enriched uranium and to full IAEA verification. Trump struck anyway.

U.S. and Israeli governments over multiple decades have charged, without material evidence and contrary to their own intelligence services, that Iran seeks a nuclear weapon. This repeated lie tries to justify the U.S./Israeli aggression against Iran. Moreover, no one should be deluded that U.S. imperialism cares about the welfare of Iranian women, students or any other Iranians. It does not. 

Instead, this attack aligns to the larger Trump administration’s 2025 National Security Strategy, while marketed as an “America First” policy, is a blueprint for U.S. imperialism and global domination. The strategy lays out a plan for dominance in the Middle East where the US and its regional partner countries exploit the region for the benefit of western monopoly capitalism. A strong Iran, aligned with non-partner competing capitalist powers, problematizes a US sphere of interest in the region. This new imperialist landscape creates a dangerous world of heightened imperialist competition among the world’s most powerful countries. 

The Communist Party USA strongly and unequivocally condemns the Trump administration’s imperialist war on Iran. We call for an immediate halt to this latest aggression. The U.S. working class does not benefit from the forever wars being waged in our name by the U.S. government of billionaires. In addition, we express our solidarity with the Iranian people who have long suffered under a theocratic repressive regime and now from the bombs of the United States.

In the streets, we call on all Party and YCL members to participate in growing coalitions against the intervention. Our job is to fight for the leadership of the working class and people’s movements in the fightback to end this war, and for peace. A majority (70%) of the US oppose military action against Iran and support explicit congressional approval before military action against another country. We demand our Congressional representatives immediately exercise their Constitutional authority to stop this latest atrocity, stop funding the war, and hold Trump responsible for this murderous action.
