No to the new imperialist war against Iran!

End Canada’s complicity!

The Communist Party of Canada condemns the illegal and reckless bombing of Iran launched this weekend by the United States and Israel. This murderous aggression flagrantly violates international law and the United Nations Charter, risking catastrophic escalation.

This attack rests on false pretexts. The claims of Iran seeking nuclear weapons are the same kind of lies that have prefaced every imperialist war. The true objectives are control over the resources and trade routes of the region. This aggression was planned long in advance, and cynically pursued even as purported negotiations continued.

We condemn in the strongest terms Prime Minister Mark Carney's statement on Saturday expressing Canada's full support for this U.S.-Israeli attack. Carney's claim that Canada is "not participating militarily" is a cowardly evasion. Political support for illegal aggression is the diplomatic cover that US imperialism seeks.

This exposes the hypocrisy at the heart of Carney's foreign policy. Weeks ago at Davos, he spoke about defending Canadian sovereignty against U.S. threats. Today, he endorses Washington's violation of Iranian sovereignty. The Canadian government cannot defend its own sovereignty while facilitating the destruction of other countries’ sovereignty.

We stand in solidarity with the people of Iran in their just struggles against a repressive theocratic regime and in support of working people of Iran’s fight for higher wages and living standards. Simultaneously, we reject the imperialist manipulation of these grievances. The Iranian people will not achieve liberation through U.S. bombs. The right to determine their own future belongs to the Iranian people alone.

It is worth remembering at this moment that the rights and living standards of the people of Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, and Syria were not improved by wars, occupations, and dirty wars waged by U.S. and NATO imperialism, and millions were killed. It is also important to point out that the U.S. government has no problem with having exceptionally close relations with theocratic governments and absolute monarchies with horrific human rights abuses, the most notable examples being Israel and Saudi Arabia, among a long list.

We demand that the Canadian government immediately condemn this attack and demand an immediate ceasefire. We call for an end to the escalation of military spending in Canada, and for the immediate withdrawal from NATO in order to resist the march to world war. We call for Canada to adopt a foreign policy, independent from the U.S., of peace and disarmament.

Halte à la nouvelle guerre impérialiste contre l'Iran !

Mettons fin à la complicité du Canada !

Le Parti communiste du Canada condamne les bombardements illégaux et débridés lancés cette fin de semaine par les États-Unis et Israël contre l'Iran. Cette agression meurtrière viole de manière flagrante le droit international et la Charte des Nations unies, risquant une escalade catastrophique.

Cette attaque repose sur de faux prétextes. Les allégations selon lesquelles l'Iran chercherait à se doter d'armes nucléaires singent les mensonges qui ont précédé chaque guerre impérialiste. Les véritables objectifs sont le contrôle des ressources et des routes commerciales de la région. Cette agression a été planifiée longtemps à l'avance et poursuivie de manière cynique alors même que les prétendues négociations avaient lieu en parallèle.

Nous condamnons avec la plus grande fermeté la déclaration prononcée samedi par le premier ministre Mark Carney dans laquelle il exprime le soutien total du Canada à cette attaque américano-israélienne. L'affirmation de Carney selon laquelle le Canada « ne participe pas militairement » est une esquive lâche. Le soutien politique à cette agression illégale est la couverture diplomatique que souhaite l'impérialisme états-unien.

L'hypocrisie au cœur de la politique étrangère de Carney est révélée. Il y a quelques semaines, à Davos, il prétendait défendre la souveraineté canadienne contre les menaces états-uniennes. Aujourd'hui, il approuve la violation de la souveraineté iranienne par Washington. Le gouvernement canadien ne peut défendre sa propre souveraineté en facilitant la violation de la souveraineté d'autres pays.

Nous sommes solidaires du peuple iranien dans sa lutte juste contre un régime théocratique répressif et nous soutenons la lutte des travailleurs iraniens pour des salaires et des conditions de vie meilleurs. Ceci dit, nous rejetons la manipulation impérialiste de ces revendications. Les bombes états-uniennes ne libèreront pas le peuple iranien, le seul acteur légitime à déterminer son propre avenir.

Il convient de rappeler à ce stade que les droits et le niveau de vie des peuples afghan, irakien, libyen et syrien n'ont pas été améliorés par les guerres, les occupations et les opérations menées par l'impérialisme états-unien et l'OTAN se soldant par des millions de morts. Il est également important de souligner que le gouvernement états-unien n'a aucun problème à entretenir des relations exceptionnellement étroites avec des gouvernements théocratiques et des monarchies absolues qui commettent d'horribles violations des droits humains, les exemples les plus notables étant Israël et l'Arabie saoudite.

Nous exigeons que le gouvernement canadien condamne immédiatement cette attaque et exige un cessez-le-feu immédiat. Nous demandons la fin de l'escalade des dépenses militaires au Canada et le retrait immédiat de l'OTAN afin de résister à la marche vers la guerre mondiale. Nous demandons au Canada d'adopter une politique étrangère indépendante des États-Unis, axée sur la paix et le désarmement.
