"Thucydides Trap" and the trap they want to set for the people

Reading the news about the Trump–Xi meeting

Hundreds of news reports have flooded the bourgeois media following US President Donald Trump’s visit to Beijing, along with the public statements made by Chinese President Xi Jinping and D. Trump.

“A war-weary world pins its hopes on the Beijing meeting” is a telling headline, accompanied by reports on the “toasts” exchanged by the two leaders during the official dinner.

Xi called on the MAGA “movement” to follow the “rebirth of the Chinese nation”, adding that the US and China “can help each other succeed and promote the prosperity of the entire world”.

Earlier, he had publicly stated that the Taiwan Strait is also a flashpoint and that, if the issue is not “handled carefully”, the two countries could even be driven into direct conflict. In the same context, he identified the “Thucydides Trap” as the greatest “dilemma” of our time —namely, whether the US, whose dominance within the international imperialist system is being challenged by China, will manage to “coexist harmoniously” with Beijing or instead be driven into armed conflict.

The fact that the possibility of a “final showdown”, one that would bring devastation to the peoples of the world, is now openly discussed is itself characteristic of capitalism’s “war era”.

Beyond this, however, the way events are being presented amounts to a complete distortion of reality.

The battle between the US and China has already begun in the “Straits” of the entire world.

From the Panama and Suez Canals to the Straits of Hormuz, Malacca, and Taiwan, the conflict is already under way. The rivalry between the US and China is already leaving shaping the two fronts of the imperialist war in Ukraine and the Middle East.

Whether or not they “fall” into the “Thucydides Trap” is not a matter of choice for the imperialists. It is the only way they can exist, because their existence depends on fighting to the bitter end for the interests of their own business groups and for the pursuit of maximum capitalist profit.

Various analyses attempt to interpret reality in a fragmented way, ignoring the fact that the intensification of contradictions is a law of capitalism, that the sharpening of competition is irreversible, and that nothing can guarantee “balance”. History has never shown otherwise.

The imperialists are preparing, and are determined, to turn the peoples into cannon fodder in their wars. Every “choice” they make to defend their “vital spaces”, every blow struck against their rivals, only deepens their contradictions and deadlocks. There is no turning back.

The crucial issue, therefore, is that the people must not fall into the trap of waiting for those who deprive them of their lives and labour to secure a future of “shared prosperity”.

They must decisively organize their independent struggle and, without further delay, take the path towards the revolutionary overthrow of capitalist barbarity.

«Ловушка Фукидида» и капкан, в который хотят загнать народы

Комментарий газеты «РИЗОСПАСТИС», органа ЦК КПГ о встрече Трампа и Си

Буржуазные СМИ наводнили сотни сообщений о визите президента США Д. Трампа в Пекин, а также публичные заявления председателя КНР Си Цзиньпина и Трампа. «Мир, уставший от войн, надеется на встречу в Пекине» — один из характерных заголовков. Его дополняют репортажи о тостах, которые два лидера произносили во время официального ужина.

Си призвал «движение» MAGA… последовать примеру «возрождения китайской нации», добавив, что США и Китай могут помочь друг другу добиться успеха и содействовать процветанию всего мира. Ранее Си публично напомнил и о Тайваньском проливе: если к этому вопросу не подойти осторожно, две страны могут дойти даже до прямого столкновения. В том же ключе он назвал главной дилеммой эпохи «ловушку Фукидида»: смогут ли США, чьё господство в мировой империалистической системе находится под угрозой со стороны Китая, всё-таки… «гармонично сосуществовать» с Пекином — или дело дойдёт до военного столкновения. Напомним, что термин «ловушка Фукидида» основан на цитате древнегреческого историка и военачальника Фукидида, который утверждал, что Пелопоннесская война между Афинами и Спартой была неизбежной из-за страха Спарты перед ростом афинской мощи. Уже сам факт, что публично обсуждается возможность финальной схватки, которая обернётся гибелью для народов, — первое, что нужно зафиксировать, говоря о военной эпохе капитализма.

Но то, как подаются события, — это полное извращение реальности. 

Борьба между США и Китаем уже началась — в проливах всего мира. От Панамского и Суэцкого каналов до Ормузского, Малаккского и Тайваньского проливов — столкновение идёт. Борьба между США и Китаем уже оставляет свой след на двух фронтах империалистической войны — на Украине и на Ближнем Востоке.

Попадут они в «ловушку Фукидида» или нет — для империалистов это не вопрос выбора. Таков единственный способ их существования: само их существование означает борьбу до конца за интересы собственных крупных монополий, погоню за максимальной капиталистической прибылью.

В разного рода аналитических материалах действительность пытаются рассматривать фрагментарно, игнорируя тот факт, что обострение противоречий - это закон капитализма, обострение конкуренции необратимо, и никакое «равновесие» обеспечить невозможно. Такого в истории никогдане было. Империалисты готовятся и полны решимости превратить народы в пушечное мясо для своих войн. Каждый их выбор в защиту своего жизненного пространства, каждый удар по противнику лишь усиливает их противоречия и загоняет их в ещё более глубокий тупик. Возврата нет…

Значит, главное — чтобы народы не попались в капкан ожидания, думая, что грабители их жизни и труда способны обеспечить им будущее «совместного процветания».  Народы должны решительно организовать свою самостоятельную борьбу и без промедления встать на путь революционного свержения варварского капиталистического строя.

La «trampa de Tucídides» y la trampa que quieren tender a los pueblos

Cientos de noticias han inundado los medios de comunicación burgueses con motivo de la visita del presidente de Estados Unidos, Donald Trump, a Pekín, así como por las declaraciones públicas de este y del presidente de China, Xi Jinping.

«Un mundo cansado de las guerras deposita sus esperanzas en la reunión de Pekín» es un título representativo, que se complementa con los reportajes sobre los brindis que realizaron los dos líderes durante la cena oficial.

Xi instó al movimiento MAGA a sumarse al «renacimiento de la nación china» y añadió que Estados Unidos y China «pueden ayudarse mutuamente a alcanzar el éxito y promover la prosperidad de todo el mundo».

Anteriormente, había afirmado públicamente que también existe el estrecho de Taiwán y que, si el tema no se aborda con cuidado, ambos países podrían llegar a enfrentarse directamente. En el mismo contexto, planteó el mayor «dilema» de la época: la «trampa de Tucídides». Es decir, si Estados Unidos, cuya hegemonía en el sistema imperialista mundial se ve amenazada por China, logrará «convivir en armonía» con Pekín o si se verá abocado a un conflicto bélico.

El hecho de que se plantee públicamente la posibilidad de un «enfrentamiento final» que llevará a los pueblos a la ruina es «algo dado» en la «era bélica» del capitalismo.

Ahora bien, la forma en que se presentan los hechos constituye una inversión total de la realidad.

La batalla entre Estados Unidos y China ya ha comenzado en los «estrechos» de todo el mundo.

Desde el Canal de Panamá y el de Suez hasta los estrechos de Ormuz, Malaca y Taiwán, el conflicto está en pleno apogeo. La batalla entre EE. UU. y China ya está dejando su huella en los dos frentes de la guerra imperialista: Ucrania y Oriente Medio.

El hecho de que «caigan» o no en la «trampa de Tucídides» no es una cuestión de voluntad para los imperialistas. Es la única forma en que pueden existir, ya que su existencia implica una lucha a muerte por los intereses de sus propios grupos empresariales en la búsqueda del máximo beneficio capitalista.

Diversos análisis intentan interpretar la realidad de manera fragmentaria, ignorando que la agudización de las contradicciones es una ley del capitalismo, que la intensificación de las rivalidades es irreversible y que nada puede garantizar el «equilibrio». Esto nunca ha ocurrido en la historia.

Los imperialistas se están preparando y están decididos a convertir a los pueblos en carne de cañón en sus propias guerras. Cada una de sus «decisiones» para defender sus espacios «vitales» y cada «golpe» que asestan a su adversario intensifican sus contradicciones y  los impasses. No hay vuelta atrás.

La cuestión es que los pueblos no caigan en la «trampa» de esperar que quienes les roban la vida y el trabajo puedan garantizarles un futuro de «prosperidad común».

Deben organizar su lucha autónoma con determinación y, sin más dilación, emprender el camino para derrocar la barbarie revolucionariamente.
