CPI Condoles the Demise of Com. Dr. Gargi Chakravarty

 

The National Secretariat of the Communist Party of India issued the following statement today (March 2, 2026) expressing heart-felt condolences at the demise of Comrade Dr. Gargi Chakravarty:

The Communist Party of India expresses its grief at the passing of Comrade Dr. Gargi Chakravarty, eminent historian, distinguished professor, and committed leader of the women’s movement.

A respected scholar and author of several important works, including Coming Out of Partition, Charting a New Path: Early Years of National Federation of Indian Women and PC Joshi: A Biography, she made significant contributions to the understanding of India’s social history and the Communist movement. She served as the Working President of the National Federation of Indian Women and was a member of the National Council of the Communist Party of India.

Her life was marked by intellectual clarity, unwavering commitment, and dedicated service to the people. Her demise is an irreparable loss to the Party and to the broader democratic movement.

The CPI conveys its heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and comrades. Her legacy will continue to inspire our struggles.
