Immediately Release the Communist Leaders of Jordan

The National Secretariat of the Communist Party of India issued the following statement today (May 16, 2026):

The Communist Party of India expresses its strong solidarity with the Jordanian Communist Party and condemns the continued detention of Dr. Omar Emile Awad, member of the Political Bureau, and Bahaa Alayan, member of the Youth Leadership of the Jordanian Communist Party.

More than 65 days have passed since their arbitrary detention, which has been carried out without due legal process and through an opaque procedure clearly aimed at silencing the patriotic left-wing voice in Jordan that has been actively campaigning in solidarity with Palestine.

The continued repression of communist and progressive forces constitutes a serious attack on democratic rights, freedom of political expression, and the legitimate struggles of the people for justice, peace, and national sovereignty.

The CPI demands the immediate release of Dr. Omar Emile Awad and Bahaa Alayan, and calls upon democratic and progressive forces across the world to raise their voices against this repression.
