Message of Greetings and Solidarity from the Communist Party of Pakistan on the 85th Anniversary of the Tudeh Party of Iran
Dear Comrades,
On behalf of the Communist Party of Pakistan, we convey our warmest revolutionary greetings and fraternal solidarity to the leadership, members and supporters of the Tudeh Party of Iran on the occasion of the 85th anniversary of its foundation on 2 October 2026.
The Communist Party of Pakistan holds in high esteem the long and courageous history of the Tudeh Party of Iran and its contribution to the struggle of the working people of Iran. The roots of this struggle go back to the Communist Party of Iran, founded in 1920, one of the earliest communist parties established in the Middle East. The persecution and banning of the Communist Party under the Pahlavi monarchy, the imprisonment of its leaders and cadres, and the tragic murder of its General Secretary, Taghi Arani, could not extinguish the revolutionary aspirations of Iranian communists.
Following the political changes of 1941 and the release of communist leaders from prison, the Tudeh Party of Iran was established as an anti-fascist political force. At its first congress in 1943, the Party affirmed its historical continuity with the earlier communist movement in Iran. During the decades that followed, the Tudeh Party became an important force in the political and social history of modern Iran, representing the aspirations of workers, peasants, intellectuals and other oppressed sections of society.
The history of the Tudeh Party is also a history of immense sacrifices. Its members and leaders faced imprisonment, executions, persecution and underground struggle under the Pahlavi monarchy. Yet repression did not succeed in eliminating the communist movement from Iranian political life.
The Communist Party of Pakistan also recognizes the important role played by the Tudeh Party in the political developments surrounding the Iranian Revolution of 1979. The victory of the revolution opened a new chapter in the history of Iran. However, the subsequent political developments brought renewed repression against the Tudeh Party and the wider communist movement. Thousands of communists and political activists were imprisoned, persecuted and forced into exile, while many party leaders, cadres and members paid the ultimate price for their political convictions.
Despite these severe conditions, decades of repression, imprisonment, executions and forced exile, the Tudeh Party of Iran has preserved its political organization, revolutionary traditions and commitment to the struggle for peace, democracy, social justice and the rights of working people. The Communist Party of Pakistan salutes the resilience, sacrifices and steadfastness of the Iranian communists.
Our two parties share a long history of fraternal relations and international communist solidarity. We greatly value the close and durable relationship between the Communist Party of Pakistan and the Tudeh Party of Iran, and hope that these fraternal relations will continue to develop and deepen in the years ahead through greater exchange of views, solidarity and cooperation.
On this important 85th anniversary, the Communist Party of Pakistan extends its warmest revolutionary greetings to the Tudeh Party of Iran and all its members, cadres and supporters. We honour the generations of Iranian communists who sacrificed their freedom and, in many cases, their lives in the struggle for the rights and aspirations of the working people.
Long live the fraternal relations between the Communist Party of Pakistan and the Tudeh Party of Iran.
Long live international communist solidarity.
With revolutionary greetings and solidarity,
Central Committee,
Communist Party of Pakistan (CPP)
