CPS supports the march for democracy in Swaziland as part of the Global Week of Action for Democracy in Swaziland

Wednesday, 2 September 2026: The Communist Party of Swaziland (CPS) supports and will take part in the march for democracy in Swaziland as part of the Global Week of Action for Democracy in Swaziland.

The march will be held on Friday, 4 September, in the City of Tshwane and will lead to the Swazi High Commission, wherein a memorandum of demands will be delivered. Activists drawn from solidarity organisations and pro-democracy organisations from Swaziland will assemble at 09:00 at Madiba Park, Union Buildings, before marching to the Swazi High Commission.

The march unites all the democratic forces of Swaziland to speak in one voice and fight against the absolute monarchy and demand democracy for our country. Political parties have been banned in Swaziland since 12 April 1973, when the late monarch, Sobhuza II, banned all political parties and activities and bestowed all executive, legislative and judicial powers on himself.

For over 53 years, the people of Swaziland have suffered untold misery, with poverty, unemployment and inequality deepening under the autocracy’s iron rule.

As the CPS, we add our voice and call for the unconditional unbanning of political parties, the release of political prisoners, and the safe return of political exiles. We also call for the deepening of unity among the progressive forces of Swaziland and a principled stand for the democratisation of our country.

We make the further call for the international isolation of the ruling regime in solidarity with the people of Swaziland.
