The United States has taken the military tensions it has been escalating for months in the Caribbean to a new stage by openly declaring war on Venezuela. The air attacks launched against Venezuela are a clear manifestation of the lawlessness and arrogance of U.S. imperialism. Having failed to achieve its objectives through threats and blackmail, the U.S. administration has once again resorted to brute force.

This attack is a direct assault on the free will and political choices of a people. It is part of Washington’s attempt to subjugate a region it has long been unable to reshape according to its interests—most notably due to socialist Cuba’s dignified resistance to imperialism and the strong anti-imperialist consciousness of the peoples of Latin America. This aggression constitutes a blatant violation of international law and is entirely illegitimate in both historical and social terms.

The Communist Party of Turkey stands firmly with the people of Venezuela in the face of the ongoing U.S. aggression. We believe that the Venezuelan people—who have steadfastly defended their sovereignty to this day—possess the collective strength and social resources needed to once again defeat these attacks. The future of Venezuela will not be determined by the vision imposed by imperialism, but by the struggle for independence and socialism.

Down with U.S. imperialism!

TKP General Secretary Kemal Okuyan on the attack on Venezuela:

"The United States has begun bombing Venezuela. We already knew that Trump—who once declared, “We will no longer interfere in the internal affairs of other countries”—is both a liar and a killer. Once again, reality has confirmed what we knew all along. There is no such thing as “peaceful imperialism.” The idea that the United States could withdraw from the world in peace and simply mind its own business contradicts the very logic of imperialism itself. Humanity now faces the risk of losing many of the gains achieved through decades of struggle. The reemergence of the law of the jungle in international relations is inseparable from the return of the law of the jungle against working people within individual countries. Sovereignty, the inviolability of borders, independence—these concepts have become meaningless technicalities for multinational monopolies. In today’s world, power decides everything. Now is the time to stand in solidarity with the people of Venezuela. But such solidarity is only meaningful if it involves a clear and uncompromising stance against all imperial and expansionist ambitions, as well as against the pseudo-left rhetoric that claims concepts like “sovereignty” and “independence” have somehow become obsolete. Both positions ultimately serve to legitimize this aggression and others like it."
