The PCTE Strongly Condemns the Imperialist Aggression Against Iran

The Communist Party of the Workers of Spain (PCTE) expresses its strong condemn to the military assault jointly started by the United States and Israel against different locations on Iranian territory. This is a new escalation that seriously increases the risk of a war with a generalized nature. 

On Saturday night, the United States and Israel bombed dozens of targets, including political and military leaders of the Islamic Republic. The goal declared by the Israeli Prime Minister himself was to promote a change of regime. The bombardments have already caused more than 200 mortal victims — Ayatollah Ali Jamenei among them. Iran responded with attacks against Israel and US military bases located in several Middle Eastern countries. The justifications put forward by Trump and Netanyahu —arguing about preventing Iran to develop nuclear arms or calling to allegedly pacification purposes— are concealing the strategic and economic interests of big companies and monopolies that are disputing the control of energy resources, trade routes, and key military positions in the region.

These facts cannot be understood as an isolated episode. They are framed within the process of clash between powers and blocs being carried out for decades, which has been intensified since October 2023. Their goal is the consolidation of the dominance of the Western bloc in a highly relevant geostrategic region.

Once again, this offensive answers to the need to ensure the interests of the bourgeoisies involved and the spread of their influence in a strategic area, wealthy in natural resources, transport routes, and labor power — even at the expense of the serious consequences for the peoples in the region.

The PCTE warns about the results that such sharpening of inter-imperialist clashed could have in our own territory and the security of the population in Spain. Iran has announced that the military bases that provide logistic support to this Israeli-US aggression could be a target for their response. Thus, the US bases in our country could put the integrity of the Spanish people into a risk. In this context, the USS Roosevelt and USS Bulkeley anti-missile destroyers —deployed in the Naval Station Rota (Cádiz) have participated in the operation by reinforcing the Israeli anti-missile shield, which evidences the direct involvement of Spanish territory in this escalation.

The PCTE calls on the working class and the popular strata to mobilize against the rearming policies, against the use of Spanish territory for imperialist military purposes, and against any aggression against other peoples. Furthermore, it demands the Government of Spain to put an end to the leasing of military bases in Spanish territory to the USA.

El PCTE condena firmemente la agresión imperialista contra Irán

El Partido Comunista de los Trabajadores de España (PCTE) expresa su firme condena del ataque militar lanzado conjuntamente por Estados Unidos e Israel contra distintos puntos del territorio iraní, en una nueva escalada que incrementa gravemente el riesgo de una guerra de carácter generalizado.

La madrugada del sábado, Estados Unidos e Israel bombardearon decenas de objetivos en Irán, incluidos dirigentes políticos y militares de la República Islámica, con el objetivo declarado por el propio primer ministro israelí de propiciar un cambio de régimen. Los bombardeos han causado ya más de 200 víctimas mortales, entre ellas el ayatolá Ali Jamenei. Irán respondió con ataques contra Israel y contra bases militares estadounidenses ubicadas en varios países de Oriente Próximo. Las justificaciones esgrimidas por Trump y Netanyahu, con los argumentos de impedir que Irán desarrolle armamento nuclear o apelando a supuestas intenciones de pacificación, encubren los intereses estratégicos y económicos de las grandes corporaciones y monopolios que disputan el control de recursos energéticos, rutas comerciales y posiciones militares clave en la región.

Estos hechos no pueden entenderse como un episodio aislado. Se enmarcan en un proceso de confrontación entre potencias y bloques que se desarrolla desde hace décadas y que se ha intensificado desde octubre de 2023, con el objetivo de consolidar el dominio del bloque occidental en una región de enorme relevancia geoestratégica.

Esta ofensiva responde, una vez más, a la necesidad de asegurar los intereses de las burguesías implicadas y de ampliar su influencia en una zona estratégica y rica en recursos naturales, rutas de transporte y mano de obra, aun a costa de graves consecuencias para los pueblos de la región.

El PCTE alerta de las consecuencias que esta agudización de las confrontaciones interimperialistas podría tener en nuestro propio territorio y en la seguridad de la población española. Irán ha anunciado que las bases militares que proporcionen apoyo logístico a esta agresión de Israel y EE.UU. podrán ser objetivo de sus respuestas. Así, las bases estadounidenses en nuestro país pueden poner en peligro la integridad del pueblo español. En este contexto, los destructores antimisiles USS Roosevelt y USS Bulkeley, desplegados en la base naval de Rota (Cádiz), han participado en la operación reforzando el escudo antimisiles de Israel, lo que evidencia la implicación directa de territorio español en esta escalada.

El PCTE llama a la clase obrera y a los sectores populares a movilizarse contra las políticas de rearme, contra la utilización del territorio español para fines militares imperialistas y contra cualquier agresión contra otros pueblos. Además, exige al Gobierno de España el fin de la cesión a EE.UU. de bases militares en territorio español.
