Polit Bureau Communique

Jan Akrosh Jathas and Mass Rally: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) will organise a mass rally in Ramlila Maidan, Delhi on 24th March against the notification of Labour Codes, the scrapping of MGNREGA and enactment of VBGRAMG, the electricity amendment bill, the seed bill and against the Indo-US trade deal.

As part of preparations for the rally, Jan Akrosh Jathas will be organised in all the North Indian states with the participation of Polit Bureau and Central Committee members.

Upcoming Assembly Elections: Elections to the legislative assemblies in Kerala, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Assam and Puducherry are expected to be announced very soon.

In Kerala, despite the constant efforts of the BJP-led Union government to strangulate the LDF government, it had put up its best performance by focusing on the elimination of extreme poverty, the first state to do so in the country, improve public health and education, ensure the protection of the rights of the workers and regular supply of essential items through the PDS. It had also ensured the distribution of pensions to all the deserving.

Given this exceptional track record, we appeal to the people to once again vote decisively in favour of the LDF.

The Congress-led UDF is mobilising huge amounts of money and rallying various kinds of sectarian forces in its support. It is playing a disruptive role inside the Assembly and outside by coordinating with the BJP. The BJP is also trying to expand in the state by promoting communal divisions. Both these forces have to be defeated.

In West Bengal, the Polit Bureau appeals to the people to defeat the authoritarian, anti-women and anti-poor rule of the TMC and also the communal BJP by voting for the Left Front. The BJP is spreading communal venom and utilising every opportunity to promote divisions on religious lines. Various kinds of Muslim fundamentalist and sectarian forces are also active in the state and are trying to come together in the name of fighting the BJP. These kinds of religious consolidations will increase polarisation and harm the democratic and secular character of the society. The TMC is also trying to further such religious polarisations in order to retain power.

In Tamil Nadu, a strengthened DMK alliance is once again approaching the people for re-election. The BJP and AIADMK alliance is promoting communal politics centred around Thiruparankundram. We appeal to the people to re-elect the DMK alliance in order to defeat the communal machinations and strengthen the secular traditions of the state.

In Assam, the BJP is running a rabidly communal and divisive campaign and is hoping to benefit from it. Considering the larger interests of the people of Assam, as the largest opposition party, it is upon the Congress to ensure that anti-BJP votes are not split and the BJP is defeated.

Attacks on Minorities, Dalits and Women: Attacks on minorities, dalits and women continue unabated. The BJP from its official social media handle released a video of the Chief Minister of Assam shooting at Muslims, showing the extent to which these Hindutva forces go to spread communal hatred. In Telangana a Muslim vendor was attacked during the tribal festival, Sammakka-Sarakka Jatara. Kashmiri shawl vendors were attacked in Haryana and Uttarakhand. Such attacks on Muslim shopkeepers and small businesses are on the rise in many parts of the country. Attacks on Muslims offering Namaz during Ramzan are being reported from various states.

ABVP goondas attacked SFI, AISA students who are protesting the casteist and insensitive remarks of the Vice-Chancellor of the JNU. The RSS demolished SFI and CITU flagpoles in Andhra University, Visakhapatnam. The Polit Bureau condemns these attacks and appeals to the people to resist the attempts of the RSS/BJP to divide the society on communal lines.

In Kotdwar, Uttarakhand, a young Hindu gym owner resisted an attack by a group of activists from Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh on Muslim shop owners, showcasing the enduring secular tendencies that still exist in our society. The Polit Bureau lauds the bold stand of Deepak Kumar, who identified himself as 'Mohammad Deepak', to protect the livelihoods of Muslims by resisting the communal attacks.

The Polit Bureau expresses its concern at the increasing attacks on dalits by the Manuvadi forces reported in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha - all BJP-ruled states.

The CPI(M) denounces the Gujarat state government's decision making it mandatory for young adult couples to seek consent from their parents for their marriage. It is another retrograde step and an attack on the rights of women.

US-India Trade Deal: The BJP-led government decided to enter into an interim trade deal with the United States that is highly detrimental to the country's interests. The trade deal will devastate the lives of crores of Indian peasants and workers. All available details of the interim deal indicate that the government has surrendered before the US. It has succumbed to US dictates on oil purchases and curtailed the import of Russian oil.

A new situation emerged after the US Supreme Court ruled that the US President Donald Trump does not have the authority to impose tariffs. Trump imposed 15 per cent tariffs on all countries using another legal provision.

Even close US allies such as the European Union (EU) have suspended their trade deal with the US following the judgment. However, the BJP-led government has shown no willingness to withdraw from the unequal trade deal, which further highlights the BJP government's failure to resist US pressure.

All these developments expose the extent to which the Indian government has compromised national sovereignty.

Budget Session of the Parliament: The 2026-27 Budget demonstrates the BJP government's commitment to promoting the interests of corporates and the wealthy, at the cost of working people and socially oppressed sections of the society, as well as larger national economic interests. It further strengthens the centralisation of resources by denying states their rightful share.

With the active connivance of biased presiding officers, the government is not allowing any opportunity for the opposition to raise any matter critical of it. The contents of the trade deals with the US and EU were not put before the Parliament for discussion. Eight members of the Lok Sabha were suspended until the end of the session for protesting against the denial of the right to speak.

Voices of Resistance: The February 12 General Strike call given by the Central Trade Unions (CTUs) was successful and is a demonstration of the anger among workers against the notification of Labour Codes and other attacks launched by the government. Similarly, in various parts of the country the peasantry is on the march against the anti-farmer policies of the government. The CPI(M) congratulates the working class and the peasantry for leading the protests against the anti-people policies of the BJP governments.

SIR: The SIR process in West Bengal has turned out to be one of the most controversial, with large sections of the population subjected to unforeseen hardships. Though the Supreme Court has refused to outrightly stop the SIR process, it has now intervened and appointed judicial officers to monitor the process. This vindicates the charge that it is being attempted in an extremely compressed timeline. The entire exercise is proving to be extremely painful for people who are forced to run from pillar to post.

Condemn US Aggression: The US has further intensified the economic blockade on Cuba and is forcing countries to stop fuel supplies to Cuba with the intention of crippling its economy and forcing it to surrender.

Notwithstanding all the difficulties, the Cuban people are resisting the imperialist pressure.

The Cuban government has intercepted an armed boat carrying mercenaries from the United States who attempted to enter Cuba to carry out an attack. This incident could not have occurred without the connivance of the US administration. It further escalates US imperialist aggression against Cuba.

The Party reiterates its solidarity with Cuba and urges the Indian government to immediately send essential medicines and other daily necessities to the Cuban people.

The United States has mobilised its largest armada in West Asia, targeting Iran. Any attack on Iran would spill over into the entire region, with serious repercussions not only for West Asia but also for global peace.

The government of India should unequivocally condemn the US aggression and stand with Cuba, Venezuela and Iran.

Modi's Visit to Israel: The Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi's, visit to Israel comes at a time when Israel is violating the ceasefire, continuing its war in Gaza, and occupying the West Bank. His address to the Israeli Parliament demonstrates a complete alignment of Indian foreign policy interests with Israel and the United States. This is a departure from India's long-held position supporting the Palestinian cause and upholding the right of Palestinians to Statehood. The visit is all the more inopportune because it is taking place at a time when the United States is preparing to attack Iran militarily at the instigation of Israel. Unable to reject the US offer, the Modi-led BJP government participated in the meeting as an observer in the US constituted Board of Peace. This is yet another example of aligning India's foreign policy with that of the US at the cost of its strategic interests. Some of the closest allies of the US, such as Germany and France, refused to join the Board, which makes the Indian government's decision even more appalling.

The BJP-led Union government is carrying out a multi-pronged attack on the people of our country through the notification of Labour Codes, changing the character of the rural employment guarantee scheme, bringing out amendments to the electricity act to benefit private corporations, introducing the new seed bill, proceeding to sign unfavourable trade deals and hence surrendering the interests of the people of our country before the US and foreign capital. This is also reflected in the foreign policy as is visible in the Prime Minister's visit to Israel and his statements.

The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) will mobilise people against these policies and organise a huge rally on 24th March in  Ramlila Maidan, Delhi. The Jan Akrosh Jathas will carry this message to the entire Northern India.

In those states where elections are scheduled, the CPI(M) appeals to vote for the Party and the Left and its allies in order strengthen these struggles.
