We condemn the indictment of Raúl Castro, the military pressure against Cuba and the continued exacerbating criminal blockade imposed on the Cuban people
International Commission of the NCPN
On 26 May 2026, the United States announced the indictment of Raúl Castro, historic leader of the Cuban Revolution and former President of Cuba, in relation to the 1996 Brothers to the Rescue incident. This comes in the context of renewed U.S. military pressure in the Caribbean, including sending the USS Nimitz and its escort ships to the Caribbean, a major display of threatening force that puts a floating airbase and missile-capable warships close to Cuba.
These actions must be understood as part of the long history of imperialist aggression against socialist Cuba. For more than six decades, the Cuban people have faced a criminal economic blockade designed to isolate the island, weaken its socialist project and force the restoration of capitalist domination. The blockade has restricted Cuba’s access to trade, finance, energy, medicine and technology, with severe consequences for the daily life of the Cuban people.
The indictment of Raúl Castro deliberately removes the 1996 events from their historical and political context: repeated violations of Cuban airspace, formal Cuban protests, and the failure of U.S. authorities to stop provocations launched from their own territory. The United States presents this as a neutral legal matter, but it must be understood politically as a new act of pressure against a country that broke with imperialist domination and defended its sovereignty against counter-revolutionary attempts. This renewed provocation is part of a broader attempt to intimidate, destabilise and suffocate socialist Cuba.
We strongly condemn the indictment of Raúl Castro, the military pressure against Cuba and the continued criminal blockade imposed on the Cuban people. We reaffirm our full solidarity with the Cuban Revolution, the Communist Party of Cuba and the heroic Cuban people.
We demand an end to all U.S. threats against Cuba, an end to the blockade and full respect for Cuba’s sovereignty.
Hands off Raúl Castro, a historic leader of the Cuban Revolution!
Hands off socialist Cuba!
End the criminal blockade!
Long live the Cuban Revolution!
