Solidarity with the CPI(M)!

Declaration by the Central Committee of the Party of Labour of Austria, Vienna, 27 May 2026

Just a few weeks after the Left Democratic Front, led by the Communist Party of India (Marxist), lost the election in the Indian state of Kerala, special police units raided the home of the former Chief Minister and member of the party’s Politburo, Pinarayi Vijayan

During the protests immediately organised by the party at the headquarters of the special police, several members of the party’s Central Committee and Politburo were arrested along with more than a hundred demonstrators. Among those arrested is the General Secretary of the CPI(M), M. A. Baby.

The Party of Labour of Austria condemns the arrest of CPM cadres and of those protesting against the arrest. The federal government of the Hindu-nationalist BJP is evidently attempting, in collusion with the Congress Party—which forms the new government in Kerala—to exploit the LDF’s electoral defeat in order to enforce its anti-popular policies.

The Party of Labour of Austria demands the immediate release of those arrested!
