In International Solidarity with the People of Cuba!

The Tudeh Party of Iran expresses its graveconcerns regarding the interventionist statements of Donald Trump, the reactionary and far‑right president of the United States, and those of other U.S. officials, as well as recent worrying developments related to the intensification of the economic blockade of Cuba and preparations for a possible military attack upon that country.

In recent weeks, a new wave of threats by U.S. imperialism against the government and people of Cuba has intensified, aimed at undermining national sovereignty and overthrowing the country's legitimate socialist government.

Since the early years following the victory of the 1959 Revolution, the people of Cuba have been subjected to a cruel economic blockade imposed by U.S. imperialism. Trump has repeatedly stated that after Venezuela, Cuba is his next target. The pressure and false case‑building against Cuba must be understood against this backdrop.

On Thursday 20 May, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio claimed that Cuba had been a national security threat for years because of its ties to US adversaries and that Trump was intent on addressing this.

He further asserted that over the years, Cuba has become accustomed to "buying time and waiting it out.They are not going to be able to wait us out or buy time. We are very serious, we'revery focused."

Bruno Rodríguez, Cuba's foreign minister, responded by emphasising that these accusations and fabrications are intended to justify a military attack on Cuba.

In this context, the provocative issuance of an indictment and arrest warrant against Raúl Castro- one of the principal leaders of the 1959 Revolution and former president of Cuba- on Friday 21 May is a clear indicator of U.S. imperialist preparations for aggression against the heroic people of Cuba.

In early January of this year, the U.S. government implemented a series of measures aimed at disrupting Cuba's oil supply. These measures were intensified on 1 May with a new executive order imposing secondary sanctions on countries intending to export fuel to the Caribbean island.

These developments demonstrate the determination of U.S. imperialism to strike at the Cuban Revolution through every possible means, a revolution that has always served as a point of support and a source of inspiration for the peoples around the world in their struggle against the barbarism of contemporary capitalism and in building a new society free of the exploitation of human by human.

The Tudeh Party of Iran, together with all progressive forces, especially the world's workers' and communist parties, strongly condemns the Trump administration's criminal indictment against Comrade Raúl Castro and declares once more its principled and unwavering militant solidarity with the Communist Party of Cuba.

The Tudeh Party of Iran believes that the expanding scope of recent U.S. threats against Cuba reflects the extreme mal-designs of an aggressive imperialist power epitomised by the Trump administration and its various associated reactionary and warmongering figures and currents,which aim to wantonly resort to military force to halt the historical shift in the global balance of power presently underway.

These threats also show that the harsh economic war Washington has waged in an attempt to break the Cuban nation can quickly escalate to direct military aggression.

At this critical moment for the people of Cuba, it is the duty of all progressive forces, defenders of world peace, and supporters of socialism to express their firm utter abhorrence of, and firm opposition to, these criminal imperialist schemes, to any military intervention against Cuba, and to the baseless judicial persecution of Comrade Raúl Castro, as well as commit to organise a broad campaign against U.S. imperialist plots.

May the solidarity of progressive forces and all the world's nations with the courageous people of Cuba grow ever broader and stronger in this historic struggle!
