AKEL: Only the people of Iran have the right to determine their future and the governance of their country

The mass demonstrations against theocratic regime of Iran and the dire socio-economic situation in the country express the Iranian people's just demands for democracy, political freedoms, human rights and social progress. AKEL expresses its solidarity with the Tudeh Party and all progressive and democratic forces in the country who are fighting for these demands and, at the same time, unequivocallycondemns the state repression against the protesters.

AKEL defends the right of the people of Iran themselves to determine their own future and the governance of their country. We condemn any attempt by the US and Israel to manipulate developments or even to launch a military attack on the country so that they can reinstall a regime subservient to them, such as the Shah's monarchy, and to control its natural resources. Any possible new violation of international law by the Trump and Netanyahu regimes, under any pretext, will plunge the world even deeper into chaos and insecurity.
