Against the Imperialist Meat Grinder and Jihadist Violence in Syria
Yet another chapter in the imperialist bloodbath that has plagued the Syrian people over the past 15 years is now unfolding. After the jihadist terror regime, backed by Turkey, the Gulf States, the EU, and the US, and in tacit cooperation with Israel, massacred hundreds of Druze and thousands of Alawites in the country’s southern and western regions in 2025, they are now carrying out yet another bloody attack in the Kurdish-controlled northeast of Syria. The aim is to consolidate their grip over the country following the takeover of power at the end of 2024.
The jihadist regime’s forces, in coordination with other jihadist groups such as IS affiliates, have penetrated Kurdish-controlled areas in Aleppo and northeastern Syria, causing destruction, displacement, and terror. This has aggravated the already catastrophic suffering of the civilian population, who havehad to flee years of war and devastation.
The Communist Party of Sweden strongly condemns these attacks and the continued role played by imperialist powers in fueling the violence in Syria. It is clear that the regional restructuring of Syria at the end of 2024 is effectively occurring within a framework supported by, among others, the US, the EU, Turkey, and Israel. In this context, local actors such as HTS, SDF, and others are used as pawns to secure geostrategic and economic interests in the form of transport routes, natural resources, and markets, to gain advantages over competing Iranian, Russian, and Chinese capital.
Particularly serious is that these actors often receive support, directly or indirectly, from states that formally claim to uphold human rights and so-called international law. Swedish capitalism and its representatives in the government have the blood of the Syrian people on their hands. This is due to participation in imperialist projects such as the EU and NATO, as well as the rapid establishment of relations with the new jihadist regime the previous year.
Contrary to what the political representatives of Euro-Atlantic imperialism claimed about the jihadists’ takeover of Syria at the end of 2024, in connection with the collapse of the Assad regime, it should now be clear to everyone that it has brought not freedom for the Syrian people, but rather a new bloody phase in the imperialist power game, which has already claimed hundreds of thousands of lives.
