SACP condemns apartheid Israeli regime’s criminal interception of the humanitarian Global Sumud Flotilla, demands the release of all abductees
Friday, 3 October 2025: - The South African Communist Party (SACP) condemns the criminal interception of the humanitarian Global Sumud Flotilla by the apartheid Israeli regime and demands the immediate and unconditional release of all the abductees.
Some of the South African nationals who have been victimised by the apartheid Israeli regime include Nkosi Zwelivelile Mandela, Zukiswa Wanner, Reaaz Moolla, Zaheera Soomar, Fatima Hendricks and Carrie Shelver, while Swedish activist Greta Thunberg and Irish Senator Chris Andrews have also been detained.
The SACP further calls upon the United Nations to take urgent punitive action against the regime for this latest conduct as its interception of the vessels and abduction were carried out in international waters, in direct violation of international law. By its conduct, the regime has also denied the desperate people in Gaza urgently needed humanitarian care, exacerbating the ongoing genocide.
The illegal blockade of Gaza along with the policy of starvation occurs in the context of the deepening of the genocide perpetrated by the apartheid Israeli regime against the Palestinian people. Israeli’s abduction of the human-rights activists marks yet another flagrant violation of international law by the settler regime, which must be combatted by the international isolation of Israel along with the international prosecution of the perpetrators of the genocide. Apartheid Israel’s genocidal machinery has overseen the massacre of close to 70,000 people in Gaza in the past 24 months, but the number could be much higher as thousands more remain buried under the rubble.
The SACP welcomes the practical steps that have been undertaken by some progressive governments towards the isolation of apartheid Israel and calls upon more governments to assert themselves in opposing the occupying regime. We make the further call to the working class and justice loving people across the world to speak in one voice towards the isolation of the Israeli regime and ending the genocide. The people of the world must squeeze the space for the genocidal apartheid regime, and its leaders must have no refuge anywhere in the world.
