SACP statement on World Teachers’ Day 2025
Sunday, 5 October 2025: - The South African Communist Party (SACP) joins the working class in commemorating World Teachers’ Day, expresses gratitude to all teachers in South Africa and the world for their sterling contribution to education and human development.
The SACP reaffirms its solidarity with both organised and unorganised working class in the education sector as they fight against the challenges they face. The Party further supports workers’ efforts in dealing with the challenges of overcrowded classrooms, heavy workloads, and lack of mental health support, among others.
We thus call for unity of teachers in our country in order to wage the struggle for better working conditions. This necessitates working round the clock to stop violence in schools as it places both learners and educators, thus impacting the learning environment. The SACP calls for improved funding as well as active involvement of parents and the communities as crucial stakeholders in imparting knowledge to learners.
In taking forward the struggle for social emancipation, the SACP will continue to deepen its solidarity with all workers in the education sector, as well as the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) in its effort to organise and unite workers across all sectors.
Workers of the World, Unite!
