GREETINGS TO THE 22nd CONGRESS OF THE COMMUNIST PARTY OF GREECE FROM THE WORKERS PARTY OF IRELAND

January 2026

Dear comrades,

The Central Executive Committee of the Workers Party of Ireland (WPI) salutes the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) and sends warm comradely greetings on the occasion of its 22nd Congress which will be held in Athens on 29-31 January under the slogan “A powerful KKE, steadfast in every trial, ready to answer history’s call for Socialism”.

The Communist Party of Greece is a party forged in struggle, standing firm in its commitment to the principles of Marxism-Leninism and resolutely and defiantly facing every challenge. The history of the KKE is one of resilience, standing unapologetically with the working class in every battle, not just for better conditions for workers and their families, but for a new society in which workers are the masters of their own destiny.

For over 107 years, in generation after generation, the Communist Party of Greece though its conviction, courage, sacrifice and actions in times of great adversity, has held high the banner of socialism-communism. Party members faced persecution, exile, torture and imprisonment and many party members gave their lives in the struggle for a better world.

The Communist Party of Greece continues to stand against exploitation and oppression at home and abroad. It has provided invaluable assistance in the practical construction of the international struggle of workers and their revolutionary organisations through its consistent and dedicated role within the International Meeting of Communist and Workers’ Parties (IMCWP), its efforts to confront opportunism within the European Initiative and the development of a principled communist pole in and around the European Communist Action.

At a time when collaborationist and revisionist elements sought to undermine, distort and destroy the achievements of the Soviet Union, the KKE stood in defence of those achievements and the historic importance of the first workers’ state.

The KKE, at a time when others abandoned the confrontation with a rotten abusive capitalist system that profits from the exploitation of workers, has never relented in that conflict, refusing to accept inequality, injustice and oppression as the lot of working people and demonstrating that the working class, organised and determined, can transform the world.

The WP Ireland salutes the enduring and indomitable spirit of the Communist Party of Greece. Imperialist contradictions have sharpened rapidly, impacting working people all around the world with war, repression and exploitation. The ever-growing imperialist threat, increasing militarisation and warmongering and continuing and sustained capitalist exploitation and oppression pose great dangers for the future of the planet.  The working class is facing a crisis in conditions where it is increasingly impossible for millions of people to make ends meet.

The KKE has consistently taken a leading role in opposing involvement in imperialist wars and highlighting the role of the United States, NATO, and the European Union, and the policies pursued by national bourgeoisie while importantly pointing out that imperialism is not confined to the U.S. and its allies and that in the present imperialist system, all capitalist states are integrated into it and are characterized by relations of unequal interdependence, competition and cooperation.

The WPI salutes the KKE for its principled and consistent solidarity with the Palestinian, Cuban, and Venezuelan peoples, as well as with all oppressed and struggling peoples, and for its defence of communist and workers’ parties facing persecution, bans and threats.

The Workers Party of Ireland wishes every success to the Greek communists in the work of their 22nd Congress and believes that this will reaffirm our common conviction that the conditions confronting humanity and our planet will only be overcome by revolutionary change. Our Party believes that this Congress will further strengthen the KKE’s ideological, political, and organizational capacity to lead the working class in the struggle for that change and the creation of a socialist-communist future.

Long live the Communist Party of Greece!

Long live proletarian internationalism!

Long live Marxism-Leninism!

For Workers’ Power and Socialism!

In communist solidarity,

Ted Tynan, President

Gerry Grainger, International Secretary

On behalf of the Central Executive Committee

Workers Party of Ireland
