Imperialism’s plan for Palestine is not a peace deal it is a bloody ultimatum

The definition of a deal is an agreement, bargain or arrangement for mutual advantage entered into freely by the relevant parties to that transaction. It requires consent freely given. An arrangement in which one side (the Palestinian people) is not involved in the arrangement and is not even consulted and where the other side dictates all the terms and threatens unbridled violence if those terms are not accepted, is not a deal, it is an ultimatum.

Trump and Netanyahu are war criminals complicit in a genocide against the Palestinian people. What they propose is not peace, it is subjugation. In 1938, representatives of France, Britain, Italy and Germany met at Munich to discuss the Sudetenland. Neither the Czechs nor the Soviet Union were consulted as to the terms. The result was a naked act of aggression endorsed by the capitalist states. Far from being the acclaimed “honourable peace”, it was the precursor to a world war.

Imperialism does not do peace. Lenin’s theory of imperialism provides a comprehensive framework for understanding the predatory nature of capitalism.

Israel’s systematic colonisation and usurpation of Palestinian land, the eviction of Palestinians, the destruction of their homes and properties and the attempt to erase the name, history and culture of Palestine has a long history and continues to this day.  The U.S. support for Israeli policies, its strategic co-operation, the massive economic and military assistance, the promotion of Israel and the collusion in Israel’s expansionism, aggression and crimes against humanity, together with persistent attempts to block and prevent any criticism of Israeli terrorism and grotesque violations of human rights, has been and remains a major impediment to peace and progress. The EU has adopted the hypocritical policy of so-called “equal distance” from the aggressors and the victims. The shameful and supine actions of the reactionary Arab states demonstrates that they have sided with the imperialist aggressors.

The concept of a so-called “Board of Peace” headed by the war criminal Trump and including the imperialist puppet Blair, which envisages a U.S. “economic development plan” and ignores the fundamental question of an independent Palestinian state is not a plan for peace – it is a declaration of war against the Palestinian people.

The Workers Party of Ireland affirms and asserts  (a) the right of the Palestinian people to resist the occupation and (b) the legitimacy of their struggle to regain their legitimate and inalienable rights and the WPI demands:

  • an immediate ceasefire and Israel’s withdrawal from Gaza and the West Bank.
  • the release of all Palestinian political prisoners held by Israel.
  • an immediate programme of humanitarian aid that reaches all Palestinians in Gaza and that UN agencies carry out their operations and services without restrictions.
  • a halt to any further displacement of Palestinians and to ensure the return of displaced Palestinians to their homes.
  • the immediate and unconditional  recognition of the legitimate and inalienable rights of the Palestinian people to self-determination, national independence and sovereignty in a fully independent state with all the powers and institutions of a sovereign nation.
  • an immediate end of the Israeli occupation of all Palestinian and Arab lands, including the Syrian Golan Heights and the remaining Lebanese Shebaa Farms that have been illegally under the control of Israel since 1967.
  • action to address the rights of those Palestinians in Israel who have been subjected to increasingly blatant Israeli discrimination and violent treatment and to address the right of Palestinian refugees and their descendants to return to their properties in Israel in accordance with U.N. Resolution 194.
  • an immediate end to the construction of Jewish-only settlements that expropriate Palestinian land and resources.
  • reparations for the death, suffering and destruction caused by Israel’s murderous actions.
  • the arrest and accountability of the perpetrators of Israeli war crimes and genocide, and their international supporters.

The objective of Israel and the imperialist powers is to obliterate the question of Palestinian national and social rights from the agenda and to attempt to legitimise Israel’s genocide.

It is the right of the Palestinian people, and not imperialism, to decide their future.
